carb cleaner + blower rotors= FAIL

yes, it turned the coating to mush after the carb cleaner sat on rotors for awhile. it literally rubbed off with just my fingers.

look bio, i sprayed mine off while cleaning the case. the coating got mushy-like the post above. before i knew what it was, i'd already messed them up. about 75% of coating was gone. can't u give someone the benefit of a doubt?

Bio, there is something you are failing to realize here. When the methanol, or alcohol comes into contact with the rotors, it is not liquid, but a vapor. Also, there are different chemicals in carb cleaner then just methanol.

I would agree that if it just chipped off its not the carb cleaner. Bubbling off, however is different, like using paint remover it bubbles off.

just wish i hadn't messed them up..when i referred to having them coated, i had looked up some co. on google. at that time, it was around $200 i believe. my reasoning then was , heck i'll buy another s/c. so i did. learned my lesson.

honestly ive never heard of anyone ruining the rotors in this method. i realize that im burning the methanol when it hits the rotors, but i sprayed pretty heavily and never had any ill side effects. i always tell people to never touch the rotors regardless because the extra carbon on them means youll be sealing them a lot better which means more boost.

i take it back that they cant be ruined, but ill still say you can hit them with pretty much anything without ruining them.

with the exception of carb cleaner.... there was definitely some kind of chemical reaction going on there. keep in mind that alot of overspray got on them. perhaps minimal amounts would have different effects.

also, why are you guys using carb cleaner to clean our throttle body? unless you have some stupid amount of carbon on the back side of the throttle plate from the EGR im not sure why youre even concerned with cleaning it.

^^^i got ya, its cool. Now since i've thought about it, maybe age combined with cc sparayed directly on it coulda done something....anyway lesson learned..did u spray in the lim or after t.b.? i would like to have meth on mine one day. gotta get new engine going 1st but it would be fun.

well as u know i did my engine swap over the weekend and had supercharger off.had a decent amount of carbon build up in it. so i figured clean it while its out the car. didnt have throttle body cleaner.

how is ur install going? i took my o.p. off friday. waiting on extra $$$$ to get ring-bearings etc and a cam.

well we would have been done today if i didnt f*ck my rotors up... headers look good im 100% sure i got them sealed. depending on how long shipping takes on the rotors im hoping to have it running by friday.

just a lil.. ive been driving this lil ranger that i bought to get me to work and stuff... 2.3 5 speed.... im shifting into 5th gear at 45-50 mph... big difference than my GP

ur not alone. i drive a turd right now too. wife drives the gtp. start a new job in 2 weeks, hopefully, i'll get my car back and get my wife another.

ok so what safe cleaner do i use to clean the carbon in the inlet and outlet (not rotor)?
