car wont start

this has seemed to be a slowly progressing problem with my 98 gp gtp. when i turn the key to the on position i have all my lights and everything seems to work fine but when i turn to the run position the car wont start. i thought it was the starter so i replaced that and it worked fine for about 6-8 times on and off and then it wouldnt start again. wondering if it is the neutral safety switch or possibly the igniotion? if someone could give me an i dea i would appreciat it. thanks

Did it stall out at all while driving? From what you are describing it could be avariety of things.

could possibly have a blown fuse(learned that one from Scotty)
Crank posiiton sensor
Ignition switch
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator

The best thing to test for is spark. pull a plug wire and test fo spark. if that is fine, I would move onto fuel.

what other symptoms did it have?

no it didnt stall. once the car is shut off the starter wont engage. i have power but when i go to the turn the key the starter wont do anything. i put in a new starter and it is still doing the same thing. when i can get the starter to engage the car runs fine so it isnt fuel or spark. not sure it is a fuse since sometimes it wil turn over. not a whole lot of symptoms car will sometimes turn over sometimes wont turn over. acts like the like the starter but like i said already been replaced

Well if it is simply a matter of the starter not engaging my suspicions would start with the ignition switch, the battery or perhaps the wire from the batter to the starter. Could be a bad ground or even the starter relay, but Id personally start with the battery and check everything there then move to the more complicated things like the relay or ignition switch.

check the battery teminals....se if any are loose. like Scotty said. check wires to the starter... or if you could pull the starter out and have it tested.
