97 grand prix gtp. Running fine then all of a suddent it won't idle. I have to keep my foot ont the gas to start and keep it running. As soon as I let of the gas it stalls. What is going on???

Thanks I already know of this issue. I have just replaced the resistor. My car won't start at all when I'm cranking it over until I give it some gas. Whil its ruiniing it runs fine like there nothing wrong. While it cranks over without hitting the gas I smell gas. So its getting gas. So have to believe it something else.

sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator, pull the vac line off the regulator and see if theres gas in there

That's what I was thinking. I pulled the line off there's no gas in it. Although when I turn the key on the igniton it does maker noise that Is noticeably louder than it has been. Is this still possibly the regulator? He iac is brand new so it can't be that. I replaced the tps sensor wth an older one I have and still no change.

Fuel filter has been replaced a couple months ago. I just put this engine in a few months ago so I have been replacing parts to get it to run good. I bought a used engine so I don't know exactly the mileage of everything on it. Ok ill have to rent a pressure guage from autozone then. The fuel pressure should be upwards od 50 psi correct?

Test the fuel pressure. Make sure it's around 45-50 psi. If that's normal, try cleaning your MAF sensor. I had the exact same problem, and the MAF sensor turned out to be the culprit. Make sure you use MAF cleaner or electrical grade contact cleaner.

Well I changed the pressure regulator. It took a few cranks and feathering the throttle, but now it starts up and idles fine again. I hope it the cure!

Thanks for all the help! I never knew these forums could be so useful. So how likely the is the regulator being the cause for my car running lean and making the manifolds glow?

Glowing manifolds if a clogged cat...get that sh1t taken care of...as...find a local that doesn't care...cut it out, gut it...and weld the empty converter case back in so it looks like you've got a converter when you really don't...and BAM...better performance AND MPG's...and you never have to worry about a clogged cat screwing with your motor.

My cat converter is removed. I keep getting ses codes for o2 bank 1 lean. I'm getting good fuel pressure. Its getting about 45-50. Althought when I turn the key it goes up tro 50 and then steadily goes down. When I start it, it stays at about 45. Is the igniton only on, decrease in pressure normal or do I have an issue somewhere?

02 bank 1 lean =vacuum leak 99.999999 percent of the time. was the code left over from maybe the FPR issue? Fuel pressure seems good now

I've reset the code a few times since I've changed the regulator. Well as far as I know. I don't have any vaccuum leaks. What's a good way to check for them? I don't hear any.
