Car will not shift out of park

My 2000 gtp will not shift out of park. When I press the brake pedal and try to change gears it will not shift and I hear a buzzing noise above my legs under the dash.

I looked through this thread a bit but I didn't see anyone mention hearing the buzzing noise. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/78332-Grand-Prix-stuck-in-park

it could be a busted wire to the shiftier under the console. pretty common. id start there. vid in that link shows it pretty good

I plan on checking out the wiring harness. I just wasn't sure if the buzzing might point to something different.

I had the same thing happen to my GP a couple of years ago. It was a couple of broken wires from the wiring jacket that plugs into the shift solenoid. I cut all the wires and soldered some extensions on all the wires then wrapped it all up w/electrical tape. The wiring jacket has a big bend before it plugs into the solenoid and that's where the wires break.

I went out and looked at it for a bit but it is a bit too cold outside.

Probably a broken wire at the BTSI switch harness at the base of the shifter.

I had a similar issue but my shifter button stayed pressed in. I replaced the shifter handle and have had no issues since.
