Car stalls SORTA?!

Ok so here is my dilemma.... I am working on a 2000 GTP and it's stalling sorta..
let's begin with the obvious..the Security light flashes on the dash but the car is running. as I'm test driving the car will loose power as if it's lost fuel pressure and start to hesitate and when you press the gas the car does not respond. The electrics are still on and the engine will eventually die ( but not always). You can restart it and it will come back on as if nothing happened. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NO CODES STORED ! but it will do the same thing after a little while. :th_shakinghead1: What is strange to me is that there is no code :th_wtf: and I have my scanner reading the live data at the time..

Has anyone had this before....Any help would be appreciated !

You said you had your ignition changed, and a new key made.

Is the new key chipped and or was the previous key? Does either key say PK3?

The obvious questions would be ... What the hell are you driving?

Meanwhile.. unplug the maf and see if it does it. If yes.. replace the crank sensor. It's a common issue.

What am I driving???? its a 2000 Grand Prix GTP supercharged I wrote that in the second line.
I'll try and follow your test and report on the out come...As far as the key is concerned ---I don't know because this is not my car but I'm pretty sure that the ignition has not been touched.
They brought this car to me to figure out this issue with the power loss and stalling. From what I've read around in this forum and others , that CPS is a common thing for these cars.
Anyone else have some ideas ----just in case.

Well well well now......if I even mess/jiggle the MAF harness connector the car dies, so it looks like the CPS will have to be replaced like you mentioned BillBoost ...Thanks. But since we are on the subject, wouldn't this happen because the connections in the harness is poor -or is it your experience with these rule out that out. In other words could it be that the harness connector or the MAF may be bad and gives the same results ? ( I suppose if the MAF was bad I would get a code of 171 or I see something on my data stream while on my test drive)
I'm going to replace the CPS first , but would like to get your thoughts on that

I'm looking at what I wrote and wondering.. WTF I was typing.

If you have issues wiggling the maf wiring... then get a new pigtail and wire it in. The CPS should only be replaced if the maf didn't appear to have any problems. Since you find problems at the wiring.. start there.

So here is where I'm at so far...I replaced the pigtail harness for the MAF and retested it. NO GO! if you barely tap on the MAF or the throttle body for that matter the car will stall out. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ?!:th_wtf: So I have reason to suspect the MAF sensor has a bad contact internally. I have cleaned the throttle body and the MAF just to see what will happen but I think that it's bad. I let you know more tomorrow.
In the mean time has anyone come across this before?

Yes.. it's common enough. You most likely have a bad maf.

My person car started shifting all jacked up. Running odd. Popped hood, tapped on maf and it nearly stalled. Replaced the maf and it's a happy car.

Cleaned the throttle body , replaced the gasket and the MAF sensor...SHE LIVES !!!!:th_praying:so far so good !

ok so I test drove it last night and it worked great .You tap on the MAF and it no longer stalls....that was last night....
This afternoon I went out side and started it up and added 1 bottle of oil because it was empty, and the idle started to fluctuate and then it stalled ...:th_yawning:WTF !!! Where is the IAC on these things? or do I have to replace the CPS after all even after a bad MAF?

I replaced the IAC and all hell broke loose. The car started sputtering and blowing white smoke..it was bad! It was acting like it wasn't getting any gas. Then it finally threw a code P0105. Disconnected the MAF (that I just installed ) and car started up like normal. WTF I know that the MAF was a used one but for it to go bad in a day ?
Has anyone ever had that ?
Car idles good now but the MAF is disconnected and I don't want to return the car to my friends kid and have it die on her. Should we invest the $140 for a new MAF and pray that the car does not kill the new one?
