well i'm on blown tranny number two in less than two years so i'm not going to sit here and try to fix it again. its a 99 gtp and i'm looking for a 2004 gtp comp g. the question i have for you is what are some of the upsides, or downsides to the new ones? i LOVE my car but its just getting old..

Well, are you looking to get a newer one because you don't wanna fix it or because you just want a newer vehicle? Getting a newer GP does not mean you will be able for sure to avoid the same problems but I'm sure you already know that. Too answer you question though, the only real differences if you are dead set on a Comp G is looks, a bit more power, and just a few tranny differences.

Comp G has stiffer ride than normal. I don't mind it but sometimes I would like a softer ride. I do like the fact that it can take a corner well with little to no roll. Paddle shifters are almost useless unless racing from a roll. Display is a nice feature that every car should have. Eventhough the car is a bit stiff my wife loves it and Im happy id say if u can get one buy it.

alot of the same issues as the 97-03 models.

04 will still have the crappy plastic LIM gaskets.

The trans has 3.29 gears and more hardend parts, but can still break like any tranny, just take care of it.

I'd fix your car and keep it, atleast you know what you have and what it may need in the future. I can't tell you how many of my friends bought a "newer" car and it's sitting in their yard broke while their making monthly payments on it. "Newer" car parts are usually more expensive when they need replaced. Think of the difference in price it would be between an 99 GTP tranny, and an 04 comp g tranny....

comp g's are nice, but why not just go with a regular gtp? in the end, it's whatever you want. test drive some, that'll tell you a lot.
