Car saying reduced engine power.

This just happened tonight. I was driving on the bridge and gunned it like I always do at night ,but this time my car said reduced engine power and turned off 10 seconds later. I pulled over trned off the car completely and tried turning it on and nothing, just kept turning over. I stopped for about 2 mins and she started back up with a bad idle and a check engine light. The car drives fine with regular throtle.

So on the way home I try to see if the problem would spur up again so I let her rip and sputter sputter sputter reduced engine power then loss of power. So I'm like wtf. I get home an notice I am showing no vacume pressure on my vac/boost gauge. I dont have it plugged in to light up yet so I couldnt tell when I was driving.

I'm going to see what I can do in the day time but would anyone know what it is directly.

Step 1: DONT BEAT ON IT
Step 2: Look for the vacuume leak re vac gauge not working
Step 3: get the car scanned for engine codes (engine light) if the vac leak is not the only issue

Usually if it shows reduced engine power one of two things occurs.
1. You lost your supercharger belt
2. You have a REALLY bad vacuum leak which would result in rough idle/stalling until you put your foot on the gas and try to move.

Mine did that a while back and it ended up being a wire was grounded. I don't remember what wire it was, might have been the alt wire

Ok so in the morning I did a little looking around and found what it was

the part that connected the rubber cracked and came off. Hard to belive that little thing can kill my car lol

I replaced it, drove the car a little bit, romped on it and it was totally fine and the check engine light was gone

Thank you Louie. My car did the same thing yesterday and I was at a gas station waiting for a tow truck and i found this forum on my phone. I saw your post with the picture and started looking. It was the same exact issue. I canceled the tow and rigged it back on there to drive to the parts store. Cost $3.54 for the fix. I can't thank you enough.

Where did you find the problem? I've scoured up and down mine to no avail. I'm almost certain it's the same issue but I can't find anything similar to your photo..... I suppose I could pay someone to look at it but... you know

I had this happen to my 2004 grand prix gt and it was as simple as checking the battery posts .. With the style of fitting from the car to the post over time it can become loose and if the connection is loose you will get this message , or your car may not turn over .. Hope this helps someone out there .
