Car chugging over 4500 rpm

cameron92

Grand Pricks
My buddy has a 2001 monte carlo. When you floor it it seems to be lacking power over 4500rpm and at times, chugs. He said at one point the check engine light was flashing. I scanned it and it threw code p0301.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Sounds like he needs a tune up.. So start there plugs, wires, fuel filter etc. Start there. Without really nothing what maintenance has been done and how long ago.. Tell your friend to start there.

It just passed emissions test, would a clogged cat not fail? It has 74,000 kms, 45,000miles. Could just be at the age where everything is going to need replaced/tuned up i guess.

If its clogged up its not letting any emissions out lol had the same problem with my 01 same symptoms changed plugs , wires, fuel filter everything I could think of it would run and idle fine until I put it under power and it about died on me . Had my dealer test it and they said the cat was clogged , changed it out and she runs like dream now just something to check just incase O and mine had 60000 when this happened

Alright, I'll definitely keep that in mind, were going to try the spark plugs and wires tomorrow to see what happens. I drove it and it didnt chug, just felt like it was missing something up top, could also be that my car is supercharged lol so my perception of lack of power is distorted.

It also starts kind of rough and shakes at idle, im thinking the spark plugs/wires will do the trick.
