canoe ...on the roof?

Hey all. I've got an '01 GT, with sunroof.

I've been entertaining the idea of getting a canoe. What I'm trying to figure out is if I could possibly put said canoe on the roof a few times a year, using one of those foam block kits and ratcheting tie-downs. If it weren't for the sunroof, I'd probably just go for it, but I'm worried about putting strain on the roof that might warp things and cause the sunroof to stop workin'.

The only other car option I've got is a '00 Cougar, which also has a sunroof. So if either car will work, I think the GP has the better chance...

What do you all think? Am I worried for good reason, or is this unlikely to be a problem?

The roof deals with all the forces the car has put on it the last decade..i dont THINK a canoe will be a problem...but ya never know I guess.

I would get a roof rack designed to hold the canoe to avoid issues with it moving and possibly falling off during highway driving.

Buy/borrow a truck and or trailer! There's no way id put a canoe on top of my car! That's me tho.
