Can I run a 'treeless' supercharger on a 97?

Can I run a treeless supercharger off a 98-02 on my 97? The vacuum routing is different is why I ask. I have a rotten 2000 and a 97 chassis rust free. I want to make 1 car out of both but unsure about how to go about it.

I originally wanted to strip the wiring from both and make the 97 a 2000 as far as electrical and drive train. Just swap everything from the 2000 into it but after stripping the interior almost to the firewall, this may be far too large of a project to actually do. So I think I've settled on just dropping the 2000 drivetrain into the 97 chassis and using the existing 97 wiring. Problem is I won't have the tree in the blower.

just follow a 98 vac line diagram.

Sounds simple enough , any other issues I may run into swapping the 2000 drivetrain into the 97 chassis?

What about the dic? Can I put the dic out of my 2000 in the 97. Just plug and play?

Yeah, I know.... I hate it. That's why I really wanted to swap everything from the 2000 into the 97 shell but it's a nightmare trying to get the hvac system and the metal crossbrace behind the dash out. I don't think the complete wiring swap would be too difficult as it appears the in hood wiring will all come through the firewall not too bad but it's getting this thing empty. I don't wanna scrap the 2000 wiring if I could swap it over. I don't think anyone has done a complete swap like this though.

Just swap the engine/trans and call it day. Anything else and you are wasting your time for nothing. The wiring in a 1997 and a 2000 should be almost 100% identical, its things like the PCM, BCM and such that are different. The 2000 DIC won't work, the 97 GTP doesn't have traction control, I can sell you a 97 GTP digital DIC if you want one.

There's nothing bastardish about a 97, except that it's the first year GM made the mistake of sharing the 3800 with the GP.. lol

best rule of buying cars is to never ever buy a car or truck the first year of a body style change or any other change. the first year of the new production is always f ed up. its like the test model. the following year gets what was f ed up fixed.

But it's not really compatible with the other years lol in terms of parts that's why it's a bastard child haha

It's very compatible. I'm confused by you saying that. The wiring harness is different, the noncharged car had the 4T60 (which is compatible with all sister cars etc) the pcm is compatible iwth 96/97 3800 sister cars, the engine and trans is totally compatible with 96-03 3800 SC'd cars, the suspension and interior is compatible with all 97-03 GP's and W bodies. Radiator, engine mounts, axles etc etc.. very very compatible.

Some modules and the wiring harness weren't compatible with the next 5 years..but that's not really a bastard in my eyes.

My engine harness for my 97 is almost 100 percent identical to my 2001 just had the extra connection for the evap system in the 97.
My 01 is running a lot of stuff off my 97, bolted right up and plugged right in.

Slick..the pinouts at the pcm are slightly different 97 to 98+. That's the main harness difference I'd speak of. Because you can't plug and play a 98 pcm.

Yeah I know that was different. But the rest of the harness is the same so he doesn't need to swap out all that stuff. I do think that he needs to run a 97 tb and maf though.

Any truth to running a 97 tb & maf? I was hoping to run the 2000 as it's a new maf. There's just a few differences that are little between the years but from what I can gather from the forum, swapping my wiring wouldn't be a good idea just to gain the 2000 advantages. The 2000 will be junked after the transplant but I love that car. The 97 is just a rolling chassis that I pulled the drivetrain out of. Tran is in bad shape and engine has rod knock. Just want a real good platform when I start modding and I thought the 2000 has huge advantages but maybe not....

Slick, I may be interested in that dic later on, the car is a ways from running yet.

There aren't any advantages. If you run the 97 PCM you need to run the 97 TB and MAF, 97-98 cars have different MAF tables than the 99+ cars, or you can tune in 99+ MAF tables.
