You dont have to be a pro but it helps. Get an astg manual and read it. There are a couple special tools but a little improv goes a long way.

That price would've bought me a new GTP. Can't wait to get mine back from the shop & see what the damage to my account will be:th_shakinghead2:
 


Like mention earlier, get a manual for the trans and all the parts before you even start taking it apart. Make sure you buy the rebuild kit from a reputable shop/store/manufacturer and that the kit they sell you is the correct one. It isn't that difficult, just take your time with the disassemble/reassembly of the trans and work in a clean place to avoid contamination. Good luck!
