i am pullin my engine out in the spring time to cam it and i am confused at this point lol. I dont know if i want the XP or S1X... i am going to be having a Gen V, 105 Springs and mod'd retainers and valve seals from zzp, S&S headers, magnaflow catback, 180 tstat, new timing chanc and dampner, and u custom tune. I want a good sounding lope at idle but i also want a good powerband. I want the cam that will give me the best gain but dont forget it is alos goin to be a DD :p lol . so every1 give me your opinions and let me know.. Bcuz i am goin to be ordering my cam here in a few weeks Thank :)

to be honest both cams will run similarly to the other. the s1x is slightly smaller, therefore slight more midrange. the xp is slightly bigger, therefore slightly more top end.

its seriously a toss up and a tune would make or break each setup regardless of the cam.

nick (01GTP) is doing my tune on his HP tuners since i only live 30 minutes form him but... i want kind of midrange power i dont want all my power top end. i wana be able to leave the line pretty hard also lol. do they both sound about the same at idle?

if you want more midrange, get the s1x, you want more top end, get the XP.

/thread.

If you really want midrange go with a VS and 1.7 RR's.

Or better yet, run the smallest pulley you can with a full size intercooler and 16* of timing.

I've installed all three and driven them quite a bit. IMO the VS is a waste unless you add the rockers on top and for the added expense you aren't gaining much over either the XP or S1X.

When I started building I did Gen V and S1X on a car that already had the headers. Tossed a N* and LQ4 in front of it and wow. Great combo. Awesome power and it made a reliable, enjoyable daily driver. Since then I've done the same basic setup with XP's and S1X's for guys in the area. The S1X and XP are close enough and similar enough that going with either will net you the same smile. Most guys won't notice which has better low end or which has better mid/high w/o a dyno.

So basicLly a xp just gives u mostly top end? Bt how can the cams be so close but yet the s1x gives u mid range and the xp gives u top end? Im startin to lean toward the s1x and i have never heard anything negative about it. What will give me my biggest gains with the s1x? Like any more mode? And im goin to have meth injection also

its because of the final lift the cam has. the bigger it is, the more it shifts the powerband into the upper RPMs.

oooo ok i got u now :)... do they both sound the same at idle or do they both sound completly different? i have looked on youtube for both cams and i cant really tell a difference.. but i can barely kind of tell the xp idle is a tiny bit more lopey than the s1x and also there is a regal around here with teh xp and im thinkin about gettin the s1x since we both race at the same dragstrip and my goal is to beat him lol :p

Custom grind from PRJ is $500,

VS + rockers unless you go used is $700.

Hence suggesting custom or S1X or XP.

Also XP sounds a bit more aggressive than the S1X.

So basically it boils down to... do i want top end power or do i want mid range power.... wouldn't u guys say our cars lack mid range power? And i don't want all my power to be up top lol

our cars have intense low end and no top end, which equates to having okay mid range. however, you wont notice a difference between the two cams like bill said.

midrange power is plentiful... Its all top end these cars need.

More boost and less timing you run the more you will find that.
