Cam questions

Ok thanks guys. I've been all over the place second guessing my choice and if I should just sell all my cam stuff and go intercooler instead, it just seems like a cam would produce more power and I would really love a little lope but I wouldn't have to worry about destroying my engine installing an intercooler haha.

This means you STILL don't have a plan... Generally not a good idea!

You HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN! Plain and simple, otherwise you wind up all over the place like you are. Stop, take a deep breath or two. Go back, re-read everything you've read, then read it again. By then you'll have a decent idea of what you want to do. Then, make a list, start assembling parts, have everything ready for the build. Then read again, check, double check you have everything. Then just do it... Simple!

Whatever it is... There's a map. There are no Unicorns to find on this platform as its all been done before. So whether it's a decent HP daily, or a beast track car with Max HP, there's a map/plan already out there for you to mimic and recreate!

Cams can cause problems too. Broken timing chains, broken springs, etc. Imo, the deeper you go into the motor, the greater the risk.

Cheap/Fast/Reliable

Can't have but two at any one time, so choose wisely!

Buy cheap, used, it might be fast, but reliability will suffer...
Buy cheap but slow, it'll be more reliable...
Want Fast and Reliable... Well, that's never cheap!

Thanks for all your wisdom everyone! On a side note, when do mls head gaskets become recommended?

I went with fel-pro's, at one point I was intercooled and running the XP cam and the head gaskets were just fine. I do have head studs as well. I think MLS head gaskets are good if you want to raise the compression.

Well I'm topswapped and so I'm already running 9.4:1 I'm not sure if more compression is recommended for a boostes car. I'm just going to be right there to taking the heads off and so I'm debating doing a mild port job and changing the springs with the heads off and adding mls gaskets since ill be making probably around 300whp

leave it alone, go with stock or fel-pro. mls are one more thing that can go wrong.
Aren't they supposed to be better though? I just replaced my head gaskets maybe 10k miles ago with felpros and copper spray when I topswapped.

See, this is why I ask so many questions. I looked up quite a few threads regarding mls gaskets when I first considered them and I didnt see anyone mention this. Although I bet no one has tried zzps ones. As far as I know they have only been out about a month

Stock head gaskets, stock timing chain.

I've never had a failure out of either one. I've had 2 aftermarket chains fail, and I'd never put another one back in. Side note, I've got a set of felpro head gaskets that we put on our turbo motor and bolted down, never ran. I'd make you a hell of a deal on them. LOL
