Caliper Issues anyone?

So I want to ask a question to anyone who owns a 2005 Gp . Or maybe 2004-2008. Have you guys ever have a problem with your calipers. Where your piston freezes and you have to resort in buying a brand new caliper? I had to replace 2 in the last month and a half and I was wondering if this happened to anyone else or if this is just my car? Help?

We have an 05 and have had no brake troubles so far. We have only owned it since June. Transmission on the other hand had to be replaced already.

What's the condition of your brake fluid? Dirty brake fluid tends to be acidic and can pit metal parts in the system.

Have you thought about replacing both the rubber front brake hoses? They can delaminate when they get old and act as a check valve of sorts, meaning that when you press on the brakes to stop fluid will go TO them and stop you, but when you let off the brakes the hoses close off internally and do not allow fluid back to the master cylinder, which creates a dragging/stuck caliper and can heat things up quick.

hmm I haven't though about that Fordman77.. ill have to take a look. But I just had to replace the 2 rear calipers. When I replace the front 2 I'll check the brake fluid hose. Maybe replace those as well. How much do you think that will cost?

The hoses aren't much, around $18 per hose. As far as inspecting them visually, not sure you'd see much other than maybe some cracking in them on the outside. When the front 2 on my Bonne went bad they looked just fine from the outside yet once I replaced them the brakes actually worked properly again. I figured since I had to replace the caliper on the one side that for another $30 I was going to eliminate another place for a potential failure while I was there.

Only issues I had on my 04 Comp-G was the E Brake would not unlock. I had to resort to turning the piston back in because it kept throwing a bunch of codes at me and started to wear the rear pads more. Most would say if you dont use it you lose it but in my case I used it quite often and it just decided to give out. Have yet to notice any issue with my GXP.

replaced a leaky rear on an '04, and now both rears on my '06 are leaking, pass side parking brake frozen. I'd call rear casliper failure common by my own experience.

Hey I also have a question too. My pun for my windshield washer fluid went out. Anyone know where its located and is it an easy swap? Since its winter I do not want to go without washer fluid.

its on the bottom of the tank, best way to get to it is by taking a few of the clips out of the plastic liner and reaching in. try working the plug off and on a few times, see if that makes it work.

Pump* sorry. And ok. It doesn't even make a sound like its trying to push any fluid out to my windshield. Just checked to see how much it will cost me and only like $13 so isn't too much if I have to buy a new one

RR was stuck, LR was leaking just a couple months ago. Replaced both, so now sadly my Comp G has 2 red ones in front and 2 silver ones in the back. Waiting until Spring to paint them...

The style of caliper with ebrake built in on the 04-08 GP (not GXP) were known for being an issue. It seems something about building in the ebrake would help it along.

I switched to that style because I didn't want to fight the internal horseshoe brake of the 00 Regal. I don't use my ebrake and have yet to have an issue, but it's known that this style of caliper can have more issues than those w/o the ebrake built in.

i used the VHT paint. its rather red.

came out like this.
