CAI or FWI

I'm debating whether to get a CAI or a FWI for my 2000 gp gt. What are the differences? mileage, hp, torque, price, etc?

differences? nothing really.

you cant really buy an intake either unless you want to spend a ton of money. youre going to have to make your own.

CAI is a FWI =colder air that combusts better but uses more fuel

short ram = less restriction and better gas mileage but hot air doesnt combust as well

both will giver you a little extra power but as bio said, make your own. i peiced mine together from summit racing for $70 vs. the $270 K&N one

I can afford a K&N one, i would make my own im just sort of confused on how to. I looked in the how to section and the one to make your own was confusing. I would get a K&N filter, is the K&N cai kit just a filter with a tube that says K&N?

i got a 4'' tube from summit with a 45 degree bend in it and a K&N filter that also 4'' in diameter and its 7'' long and i got a 4'' coupler to attach it to the throttle body

Yup and way overpriced! I made my own FWI it's ok you get good hp out of it but in the winter \ rainy months you get all sorts of nasty **** all over your filter. And it can even suck water :th_skull: I've ruined two K&N filters that way. This time i just put the filter on the end of the blower and couldn't be happier. Plus i get better gas mileage that way.

I mean if you really think about it your getting a FWI for HP right but it decreases your fuel econ. How often do you race to need that extra HP \ colder air. Me its about 4 times a year at most. I'll just pull the headlight and get the cold air during racing and save my money. Plus the filter on the end of the Supercharger sounds pretty *****in' at WOT.

Do what you want i'm just throwing out the pros and cons.

Ryan...you typed all that and this guy has a GT...so

Get something with 4" piping and get it as close to the fender hole as possible with only 1 bend...the one off of the TB

If you want to get a little more power out of it, try a HV3 High Velocity Intake Insert. I've never used one, but the claim is about 20hp and I've never heard anybody say they are junk. Try doing some searching on here and maybe you can find more out about it.

Oh well either way I'd do a Short Ram. I just got tired of getting my filters screwed up by road gunk.

The easiest FWI/Short Ram I can think of for a GT would be the Spectre brand 4" aluminum pieces from Summit. One 22.5* piece and one straight 6" long piece with two couplers and a filter. Puts the price under $100 for a nice setup. All you have to do is drill the hole and get a grommet for the IAT sensor.

How about a pic instead? :D
It's really dirty, but you see what I'm talking about.
