Cabin heat question - Possible problem

I was using my heat the other day when I noticed that the heat will not begin to operate when the speed setting is on 1. When I move it to 2 it will then come on with good strength. Ive tested it on diffrent settings (floor, windshield, and front) and none of them seem to work. Kind of weird, and not really a big deal. Just wanted to see if this is common.

Also - The cabin heat is not very strong. I drove 10 miles (in 38 F weather) and the heat was still not very strong. This may just be common but are there any ways to increase the heat? Im not running a aftermarket T stat eather...

if you drive it 10miles and the heat is not hot hot, you might have a sticky Tstat, that is stuck open...... Possibly....... or it is taking a while for the enitre cooling system to warm up...... I notice I have to get on it slightly for mine to warm up to decent heat.

There was a thread earlier. a person changed out the ignition switch, then his heat worked on all settings.

there could be a few things that may cause it not to work on 1......

If you are not having any other electrical problems, then the problem with your blower may be the blower motor resistor.

The ignition switch problem usually cuts out the blower all together, no settings would work. At least with mine.

i would put a thermostat back in its cold out your car wont get to operating temp. and it will take a lot longer to get any real heat to. and as for setting 1 its just weak like it really doesn't work at all

I havent touched my thermostat.

Hell I may as well go in there and replace it with a 180*. How do you do it

You mention that you are not running a t-stat. Does that mean you totally took the t-stat out. Or do you mean you haven't touched it and are still running a stock t-stat.....meaning "not running a different t-stat"??

Oh damn im an idiot. When I said im not running a T-Stat I meant that im not running an aftermarket tstat.

Meaning I have the stock Tstat in and I have not installed a new one or touched it at all.

the t stat, is right next to the throttlebody, its 2 10mm bolts, replace the oring also. its very easy

yes, as well as the 180 stat. i used RTV also around the housing just to be safe

Is the 180* better for winter (10* - 35* F) or for summer?

Hell ill install it for fun. From what I read theres no performance upgrade and it lowers or MPG. Ill be the judge of it all

Stock is 195* correct?

yeah stock is 195 i run a 180 all year round and im in NYC

I can change my t-stat in about 5 minutes. 2 10mm bolts. And I reuse the t-stat o-ring. But I know it was changed recently. But the stock is 195° t-stat and I would recommend to stick with that. But it doesn't hurt to make sure you have a good quality t-stat in your car.
