Cabin drone: Glasspack vs. Resonator

Bedwards

I am running the SLP cat-back exhaust, and I'm getting very annoyed with the cabin drone between 1800-2500 RPM. What's the difference between a glasspack and a resonator, and which one is more effective at eliminating cabin drone? Thanks guys.

I had the same problem with my GMPP system, and that was with the resonator and cat installed. I personally think it's the mufflers not doing thier job, or improper muffler design. The stock units (mufflers) are much larger in diameter, or, properly sized to reduce the drone. I loved the sound of the GMPP system, it was just that darn drone at 1800-2300 that drove me crazy, I endded up reinstalling the factory system with the exception of thier resonator (left it in place) and the drone is now non-existant, so I'm thinking it's all in the mufferls.

both will eliminate drone, however, they are different in their application.

glasspack: does its job to 'smooth' out the exhaust note, but doesn't really provide any sound dampening.

resonator: used to make the exhaust quiet and helps keep it from being raspy.

Well, when you want flow you get noise. It's unfortunate but true. I vote going for a resonator.

Not really...my car flows great and its quiet until WOT.

I have Catless Pacesetters, 3" Custom piping from the catback flange back with Flowmaster 40's and a stock GM Resonator. No drone or rasp here.

I don't think the OP's exhaust has no resonator. Having the stock resonator in place definitely helps. You did it the way that I would've. What piping did you use?

Thank you, Bio. Which one would YOU choose? And what's a good brand to buy?

i bought a glasspack to put on my car for 19.99 from summit (their brand). it was cheap and effective for what i was looking to get out of it.

be weary that resonators last A LOT longer than glasspacks do.

I also have the SLP cat-back along with SSAC headers, same as speed daddy, and the drone is annoying. I bought a magnaflow resonator 3in in and out for like 80 bucks. I'm getting it installed monday and i'll let you know how it sounds.
