Hello i am buying a pontiac grand prix gtp it is 97 with 160,000 miles. What should i look for in buying this car? The only thing wrong is the little 90 degree bend piece that goes into supercharger. When you get on it it sprays out of it the guy told me the o ring needs replaced thats why it does it. Does this sound true also the abs light is on but brakes work perfect. And when you first start it up its a little loud and shakes then goes away witin a few seconds and the air bag light is on something about wires touching or not getting enough power to it. Im only paying 500 does it sound like a deal.

is it all rusted/rotted out? look under it real good. if its clear of rot or not, if its rot free id get it. (pa car you never know)

id find out whats been done to it over the years if at all possible.

if you plan on doing all the work it wont kill your wallet.

abs light, usually a wheel bearing 100 bucks each

plastic elbow 5 to 10 bucks

air bag light could be the air bag modual under the front seat,(under the rug) there is a proper name for it,i forget tho, 20 bucks used.

rattling sounds could be the sc coupler, 20 bucks off ebay, and use gm sc oil only! remove the belt check for play by turning (like snap it back and fourth) the pulley back and fourth quickly.

and these cars seem to sound rough till they warm up, they all rattle some, the older ones anyway.

search the how to section theres a write up for all this stuff, its all very common.

and welcome.

after i fix these things i want to look into getting a deep non ricey muffler any recommedations. Is the elbow replacement difficult im a moderate at working on cars. car is rust free

search the how to section....its all in there, pics and all.

please don't put a fart can on it.......it will sound like chit.

Hell no lol. I cant stand the sound of fart cannons except for the deep subaru ones. I was thinking like flowmaster or magnaflow something deep sounding. not sure which one sounds good on these cars. Also is there anything i should replace or keep an eye out for this is my first supercharged car.

I looked under the repair threads i couldnt find the one on replacing the elbow that goes to supercharger. the one spraying coolant

are u talking about the little black plastic elbows that go into the lower intake manifold?

if so they are easy... u have to remove alternator and alternator bracket. maybe a 30 minute job.

yea its one plastic elbow piece i guess the oring is bad. SO everytime you floor it it sprays coolant. SO i dont go over forty or gun it for now in fear of hurting something.

Do you have to run premium in the supercharged engines? I know with my turbo volvo i always just not sure on supercharged engines.

yes its a good idea to run at least 91 octane.. anything lower and u will be prone to knock otherwise known as KR which will destroy ur pistons if u stay in boost a lot.

when u replace them... replace both of them.. cuz when u take everything apart they are more than likely gonna snap. u can find them at any auto parts store in the "help" section.. dab a lil bit of oil on the o ring when u install.
