Burnt My GTP

That sucks but not enough said...
Curious to what the cause of the fire was as I'm sure others are, havn't heard about too many 04+ fires.
After 10+ w bodies I have a pretty good idea what to keep an eye on to prevent these things from happening but that don't stop me from keeping a fire extinguisher in each car. The modded car has one behind my seat and one in the trunk.

Subbed for more info. I'm trying to make my GP "fire-proof". Already did the vc gaskets and Fuel pressure regulator.

I'm assuming it's going to be either a fuel leak or the vc gaskets leaking and letting oil hit the manifold.

Pretty sure someone's established that the mani's don't get hot enough to ignite oil (though I wonder if a clogged cat might get them hot enough, as it will turn them cherry red), and that the problem tends to be dry rotted injector o-rings.

Anythings possible. I know one thing I don't exactly put my trust into the manifold not igniting dripping oil.

You can go out and test it if you like but I'm sure you agree that dripping oil and and hot anything is no bueno

The manifolds get plenty hot enough to ignite oil.

I would know, I've dripped oil on them.

Exactly.

Go outside and let the car run for awhile then go out touch the manifold and you can't tell me that it's not hot enough to ignite oil. I give no cares if it was confirmed that it doesn't or not nothing is foolproof. Even that .1% is still to high for me to chance.

Hm, flash point of oil is something like 425*F maybe? I bet that number goes down significantly with a gasket failure resulting in fuel in the oil, or perhaps the other deposits in it as you near time for an oil change.
I've personally seen a number of oily manifolds go months/years without fire issues.

manifolds CAN start a oil fire FACT / thread

GM recall on the VC gaskets and grommets was a lame liability cover up................

...the recall for series II (OP is III) that only replaces one of the VC gaskets? Yeah, GM's spot on as usual. I'll sleep soundly knowing they've got my back.
I guess all I'm getting at is that compounding issues make the fire oil more likely, not that it's impossible.

no idea what the fire is from. it was -45 that morning when i fired the car up to let it warm up. while it was warming up i heard it misfire a whole bunch of times, then it died. i quickly ran out to the car to find a **** pile of smoke coming from under the hood. cracked the hood open and there was flames against the firewall, above the header. so it melted my spark plug wires as well as the alternator power wire and a bunch more **** back there... coolant lines that run into the tensioner. just a **** show... im pretty pissed off considering that i had nothing touching the headers or even anywhere close of touching them. BUT the night before i had my reverse lights short out, my park lamps short out, rear and fronts. so there was FOR SURE a wire issue. i thought since it was arctic cold this week that maybe some of the fuses weren't connected properly or something that just got effected from the cold, but i dont know? fact is that i have to bring it in to get insured and im almost certain that its a write off.. so i guess my black Comp G is going to be getting fixed up and safetied sooner than planned... i hope that i get more than $5,000 for the car, if not ill request them to replace my vehicle with one just like it of the same value.

PS.
The pictures i tried getting are crap and its very very hard to see what actually burnt. its not like it was a huge blaze of fire, but enough that i couldn't put it out with a pale full of water the first time.. very much a kick in the balls for putting money and cleaning the car up from the previous owner to have this crap fall onto my lap:mad:
