Building a trans

well suppably this was a good working trans I only paid $100 for it so I'm not to upset about it I just don't see why he didn't just say it was ruff lol
 


I've pulled a trans out of a workign running driving car before. Knowing it needed to be rebuilt because it was heating up and seeming slopping. When the builder pulled it apart, it looked like metal soup inside. The seller may not have known. But the metal in the pan (clearly he pulled the pan to drain fluid) should ahve been a give away.
 
oh I think he know because the bolts to diff cove could have probably come off by hand like I said I don't care I only payed $100 for it and I can probably still get that out of it
 
so I rigged up a bracket with some junk I had lying around and I've never been so proud of somthing so half A** lol

So I ended up cutting the head of those bolts off... after that they came out by hand...

ordering my book and the other tools bill suggested so Hopefully by next week I'll have it all the way apart and be sending and reiceving parts.

Does anyone have one of these?

It's from Raptor or what ever their called. as you can see its aluminum with fins and it's got a drain plug which is cool plus it looks awesome
 


a little tip for anyone not familiar with 4t65e dissasembly. to prevent the channel plate bolts from rounding off during dissasembly. tighten them slightly with a six point shallow socket. you will usually hear a snap or crack sound. the sound your hearing is the threads unlocking. now slowly untighten them.

I was able to get most of them from Ebay for a lot less than if you bought them new. I did have to get a few tools from other sources on the Internet though. The resizing tools for the input/3rd clutch worked really great as well as the resizing tools for the turbine shaft. I was even able to find the bearing remover and installers on Ebay which also worked very well. And one tool that really helped was the clutch drum/final drive remover and installer since I had to pull the clutch assemblies out a few times to get the endplay correct. I was able to use a universal spring compressor, but had to make a slight modification for it to work on the input/3rd clutch springs. I hope this helps you out.

yea thanks I was looking around and it seem couldn't find them where I thought I would I'm going to ask my dad what tools he might have at work that I could borrow first so I don't buy something I don't need
 
I got the input/3rd ring resizer off Ebay. Best $40 I spent. Wish I had the clutch drum holding tool. Universal compressor with an add on nut/piece of threaded rod to make it long enough for the 3rd/inputs. Bearings..I got creative with stuff I had around for the most part. Your area looks well stocked with "stuff" that may become tools. I'd mod your bracket a little further with a welder so that you can turn the trans with the tail pointing down. During assembly the loosey goosey don't have every tool method, you'll need to have gravity on your side. I think the proper tools, need it too...but you really need it on the "farmers method".

A little wiggle, jiggle and finesse allowed me to get around needing the holding tool, but it would have been nice to have one. First time out assemble most of the parts on the bench and get the feel for how sloppy/workable it all is and it'll help you realize if things are assembled right and seated.

Stuz.. is that the tool that holds the input/3rd, 2nd and all that stuff togehether to load in as one unit? If so.. pm me if you are interested in selling if you no longer need it.
