Thanks man... what you looking to get? Its crazy how much things have changed since i built my last one haha i had to do so much research to catch up lol

well currently I am running the following

Asus M5A97 R2.0 MB
AMD Phenom II X6 1095 Thuban clocked @ 3.7ghz
Coolermaster V8 heatsink setup
16gb Crucial DDR3 1600mhz
WD 1TB 7200rpm HDD
EVGA 2gb 660ti
Cougar 750w PSU
And a sh*tty Rosewill case

so I want something comparable to what I have now just..... updated lol

Swap out the Phenom for an 8 core FX. And get the 990fx Sabertooth board. In every day computing and most games you will never notice a performance difference between that setup and an Intel setup. Unless you are going to be doing hi end photo/video editing like the op, Intel is overkill and not worth the price increase.

I really don't have any problems doing anything as far as multi-tasking , gaming ect. never have with this setup I just want an excuse to spend money on something new... haha

You are severely limiting that board by running dual channel ram instead of quad channel, I would swap it out for a 4x4gb kit.

I will be grabbing 2 more stick shortly so i will be running 32gb

I wouldn't say severely limiting. Just losing one of the few advantages of 2011 vs 1155 socket at present...In addition to the additional 16x PCIe channels. I doubt you would notice a difference in the memory unless you edit HD videos on a regular basis.

If you're already planning to grab additional sticks, then I would follow slick's advice and grab a quad channel kit. You have to buy it as a kit - the sticks included in kits are pretested to work together nicely. Piecing a kit together is a gamble and probably won't work.

?. Oh you just mean ram that is quad channel.. ya but there isnt much of a difference between dual channel and quad channel capabile ram.

Tha mobo is what matters as far as dual/quad memory.

Its just 4 sticks that are pretested & verified by manufacturer to run in quad channel together.
If you buy 2 more additional sticks of the EXACT brand/model that you already have, they may all work together nicely in quad channel. I would say odds are in your favor, but you may end up stuck running them in dual channel. But even if that happens, doubt youll notice the difference.

Mixing brands or even models will definitely not put the odds in your favor.

Right ya def mixing brands and such is a no-no... and ya i understand what you are saying about them testing them together to make sure they run better.

I think alot of the old concerns with that kinda stuff is becoming far less concerning with all this new gen hardware thats out... atleast from what i have read a while ago

Yea its probably mostly a marketing ploy, hard to find some technical details on what makes sticks compatible with one another or not. Although the quad kits are usually better value per GB vs multiple dual channel kits, so marketing ploy doesn't make sense sometimes; hinting there is a technical hardware reason. Its a weird shady area of computer hardware aha.

I personally successfully mixed a Corsair Dominator 3x1gb and 3x2gb kits. Running in triple channel on 1366 i7 platform. The sticks are basically identical and Dominator is very high quality series, so that's probably why there's no problem. Actually have them running an extra 100mhz over stock... all good. Just beware, there's no guarantee.
