Build Advice

Hey everyone, new to the forum here. I'm looking at finally spending some money on my gtp and have some questions. I have a budget of $4500 and want opinions on what will give me the best performance. Ideally I would like to hit low high 11's or low 12's. I am interested in going turbo, however, I'm getting the run-around every time I contact zzp. A little background on the car, its a 2000 gtp with 110k. Intake and head gaskets were done last year and trans is being built right now. Are my goals reachable with the m90 or should I stick with my guns and go turbo? Thanks in advance for any help

go turbo.
you dont necessarily need a ZZP kit...you can make your own, or shop around on forums like these in the for sale section and look for used turbo parts in decent condition.

The idea of having everything already figured out was why the zzp kit appealed to me. When I contacted them however they keep trying to get me to buy more and more. I was planning on going with the z3 kit, 3" catback, 60# injectors, and make my own air/air intercooler. I was told by customer support that I would only be making very low 300whp, which didn't seem right. I couldn't justify the point of spending close to 5k and barely breaking the 300 mark.

12's are very possible with a M90.

Going turbo will grenade most "semi built" transmissions. Fully built with 1" chain and 3.29 will cost big monies and last a hell of alot longer because of the upgrades.

Another thing, never touch the bottem end, leave it all stock, dont buy pistons or any of that junk.

If you want a fun DD with the ability to hit 12's I'd do a cam setup with an intercooler and use the trans you are getting built. Spend 2,000-2,500 and just bank the rest and use it on parts that may break.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not worried about the trans, I agree about the 1" chain though. Been looking for one now about 6 months lol. The guy that is building the trans actually builds transmissions for several off-road trucks that race at Crandon. I know very little about transmissions but I do know he was planning on going with an upgraded input shaft, hardened 4th shaft, shift kit, 2500 stall tc, 7/8" chain, and various other things.

Is a mild turbo setup like I mentioned above going to outperform an m90 with cam, ic, and a smaller pulley? I forgot to mention the car also isn't my dd. So reliability is for sure a factor but I will be okay if something were to break. Thanks again for the advice

FWIW I made 346whp on a intercooled cartuning PT-61 kit with 1.9 rockers. That was on 42lb injectors too. My CT kit used ran $2300 shipped. Which left more monies for the trans build.

A turbo 3800 will always have the possibility of making more power than a M90 setup. Infact if you have the coin there is no sense in even considering staying S/C. If you want to make good power then look at doing a cam with your turbo setup. With a good tune you will easily see over 400whp.

I was considering going the cartuning route, however; everything I read suggests zzp is superior. Cartuning currently has the intercooled kit for $3600 on sale, I'm just iffy about going turbonetics. I'm still most likely going to go intercooled cartuning kit, zzp 3" catback, and a good tune from a local tuner. I would eventually like to cam, I'm just weary of it right now.
