Buick GNX

Butthurt over a name. At the end of the day unless you got something invested in GM who really gives a **** what they call it. Once again there's not a gun to your head forcing you to buy one. It's up to the buyer if he or she passes on purchasing one because of its history or what it doesn't possess. Your opinion is simply a opinion I doubt one guy is going to get them to change anything.

I will probably never buy one so I really can careless but I wouldn't mind seeing them around town or at the dealer etc. I appreciate classic and modern cars when executed probably.

What's wrong with it?

This looks like it would rip your face off and wear it on Halloween.

This looks like something my 90 year old Grandma would drive.

Im not saying that it looks like the original GNX because obviously doesn't but its 2013...styles change obviously and the whole round and curve thing happens to be what manuf are producing now. Besides the challenger that i can think of off the top of my head is about the only car that still keeps that sort of boxy look.

And the Challenger is dead sexy too. GM didn't have to make the new "GNX" look exactly like the old, but they could have at least attempted to give the car a muscular look. Instead they just slapped a badge on a Grandma car because it has a turbo.

Lmao what do you expect from GM.

Do agree the challenger is pure sex if I was in the market for something like that, that would be the one.

my 94 year old great grandma owned my gtp previous to me. she also peeled the tire off the rim twice

Making the front and rears look like the original would go a long way in the retro vibe. Bumpers, headlights and taillights. And make sure they are placed at proper heights as the only gripe I have with the challenger is how dam high the lights are in the back. So much space below them.

Previous gen of mustangs did a pretty good job of capturing the retro look as well.

There were a couple of photoshops of various GM cars over the years. One of the GTO and G8 (Aus cars) trying to recreate the GNX. Both look better than that **** they're planning. Why the hell can't GM use the Camaro for the basis, just throw a turbo V6 in it instead? Is that too hard? I'm pretty sure I saw a rendering based on it, or maybe someone even made one (like the TransAM one-offs), but I can't find it. Anyway, there is a reason GM needed Gov't bailout money and apparently they still aren't learning.

That 2nd Photoshop is based on the 2008 Holden "Coupe 60" concept car, which I've been drooling over for years. At the time, I was really hoping they'd hurry up and build it, then bring it to the US as the G8 coupe, but the concept never made it to production. :(

Lol lets calm it down here guys. Namingthis car the GNX will not cause our great nation to implode.

Obviously not, but the MENTALITY behind why they're doing it, and the number of people who share this mentality WILL eventually erode the nation. That's why I said it's not merely about this car, or even cars in general. Lack of care, soul, passion, significance, creativity, responsibility, etc. behind decision making these days is running rampant, and that usually marks the end of a nation. It's hard for most of those in their teens and 20s to understand this because they were born into and raised by this "who gives a fuk!?" era.

Its GMs name and they can stick it where they please.

Strawman argument. I never claimed GM doesn't have the right to use the name however they like. However, if they do, they have to be prepared for the criticism for it from the more serious car enthusiasts. This concept is probably lost on GPF because I don't consider the majority of GP/Gen II & up w-body/3800 fanatics and owners to be actual car enthusiast. Just fanboys of the aforementioned. Most of them know very, very little about other makes, models and motors/drivetrains outside of their own (IF they know anything about THAT even), much less automotive history.

All honesty I only car on how it handles, drives, ect. Call it a chevy metro if you want, but if that car can make me feel like I'm driving an amazing car that is good then I don't care lol. I think this will be a good car imo, they said rwd, black, and tt v6. So what's wrong with this car?

You're right that the performance, quality, fit and finish, etc. are the most important aspects of any car. As I said in my previous posts, I have NO problem with the new Regal. This has nothing to do with having a grudge against the car, or not liking its looks, etc. In fact, I said it's an excellent car, and I actually like how the GS looks (didn't like them in pictures, but they looked much better in person when I started seeing them on the roads). This has more to do with what the GN (not just the GNX) nameplate represents, which was cutting edge technology for its time, and pushing the envelope on what drivetrains they already had. The sequential fuel injection, distributorless electronic ignition, and ceramic turbine wheel in the turbo pushed the 175 hp 3.8L to 200 hp, and made the '84+ GN one of the fastest production cars of its era. In fact, in its last year ('87), the GN was built to beat the 'Vette just to show up those at Chevy who said "a V6 will never beat a V8", and the GN, now up to 245 hp, did just that while the severely underrated (as most dynos prove) GNX (also listed as 245 hp) ended up being the quickest US production car that year (low 13s bone stock, which is impressive even today). THAT is the heritage the GN nameplate brings to the table. The new Regal is a great car, but to slap GN on a car that uses the same drivetrain already available on several other GMs with no altercations does not keep the same spirit or heritage of that name.

*COULDN'T. It's COULDN'T care (SPACE) less. How does saying you CAN care less show that it doesn't mean anything to you?

If the argument is it's 2013, and "times are different", and the car is different and new and modern and ready to compete with world class cars, etc. etc........why bring back an old ass name to slap on it? The whole premise for your case revolves around how it's modern and with the times, but if that's the case, why name it after a nearly 30+ year old car? I will probably never buy one either (as with most people on here), nor have I owned an original GN, and most likely will never be in a position to do so. So no, I don't have a stake in what happens. To me, GM as a leader died off decades ago, and aside from the G8 GT, I have no interest in any of their newer cars, but that's besides the point. My point was only to illustrate why car enthusiasts, especially GM/Buick ones, would be upset over this. If you truly love cars, you'll understand. If not, then I don't expect you to grasp the concept.

Rare: You should be happy it even has a name rather than a number designation.

What should really piss people off is that the engine it will get according to this article is just the "sport" CTS engine. The V will be faster.

So Buick won't have anything to compete on the V level, which is what people are expecting. The GS should be the turbo six. GNX, supercharged LT1 anyone? :D

I most be getting up in old age. I'd buy the GNX and if the price point is with in reason sub 30K I'd probably pick one up pending a test drive.

I can see why gm would stick the ttv6 they already made into it. Making a brand new engine that could spank up on all of there other brands would not be financially solid. Rare that is some solid and valid argument points you bring up and I respect that.

The C7Z needs a new engine.

The C7Z ZR1 needs a new engine.

The next gen Camaro needs a new engine. Then the Z, ZL1 versions of that.

So it's not making a new engine, so much as using an engine that will be shared amongst other cars.

Lingenfelter 2014 Silverado 5.3 L Magnuson Supercharger Installation & ¼ Mile Numbers

So it's been done. Now it's GM's turn.

They did a nice job on the new Truck. For a completely stock truck only on 7psi that is a hell of a pickup on the 1/4. Would be a hell of a fun drive.

I expect the C7 ZR1 level car to utilize the LT1 on boost, but not forsure what they would do for the Z06. Going backwards for a motor isn't a viable option with all the tech the C7 LT1 is rocking. Nobody would buy it. So they have to come up with a new motor option for a Z06/Z07/W.E. option they do as a "performance" version, unless they just scrap the ZR1 as a end all be all of the C6 body style and run a Z06 model with a boosted LT1. That would be fun. Base car and badass. Those are your options, not the base, convertible, Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 like the C6 did. Just base car and badass, with a hardtop convertible option for the base.

BOP engines haven't been made in a long time, GM just can't afford it.

Each branch of GM used to sell enough cars to have their own engine designs amongst other things.

Now GM's share is so small, I'm surprised they still have multiple distinct engine families, and so many variations of each.

Family 0, I, II, High value V6, Gen V small block I believe is the current range.

Some small companies are no longer offering anything interesting: Swedespeed Forums - New Volvo engines!

Electric water pump, supercharger and a turbo. All on one engine.

BMW's base engine is a turbo four.

It's coming.

The end of the V8.

Again. :D
