Brown Gunk in Radiator

Can anybody help me out with this. I found some brown gunk in the radiator cap and in the entrance of the radiator. Is it the Dex-cool melted?? See pics

Dexcool doesn't melt, that is just what happens when old dexcool meets air. Air the coolant system over time will cause the dexcool too sludge up. Flush it out and put the new improved dexcool coolant in or switch to green coolant.

thats a lot of sludge, id flush it to clear water, then add some prestone flush or the likes and drive it for a day or so, then re flush it and swap to green coolant.

Your radiator is in good shape too, including all your coolant passages... Gonna take gallons of water to flush that crap out!

Our impala was worse. Flushed it thoroughly with a garden hose until no more particles or color, filled with water and 2 bottles of prestone flush. (weather above freezing obviously) A week of driving later, the water looked just as dark as the nasty coolant did. Flushed again the same way, and added antifreeze. A year and a half later the coolant is still nice and bright colored. Every so often a thin film of brown will appear in the neck, but that's it.

My prix has this starting to sludge up on the radiator cap. I definitely have to do a flush of the system and get the new dex cool.

That happened on the Blazer because I forgot the heater core like an idiot. I just ran it for like, 2 weeks and flushed it again.

You can pick these up at pretty much any parts store, Walmart, Kmart, Target, Shopko what have you.

Had this on my 2000 Blazer, so when I bought my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, I took the Dex-Cool out when new. Green coolant and 153,000 later, and I do not have the dreaded intake manifold gasket leak yet.

I was chastised by GM technicians every time the car went in for a recall, the keys where too much weight would wear out the cylinder. Mine did not have a defective key cylinder. Now I get recall notices for the front head gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold and causing fires. I refer back to my change of coolant, and how it is non issue for my car.

Will never leave Dex-Cool in any GM product I buy. Even when new. I am sure this is part of their planed obsolescence for these engines and cars.

dex coolant has been reformulated, it no longer sludge's up. i still run green, its cheaper as well. and works just fine.

It is worth the small expense added to use distilled water, at least on your final fill. I have sworn off Dex-cool and I have gone green. Your Intake manifold gasket may be melting causing some of the gunk.

I would remove hoses, flush engine, radiator, and heater core. Add flush treatment. Follow directions, and keep doing flush treatments until clear. Drain and refill with distilled water and coolant of choice.
