Brown Fluid = Trouble?

Changed the Fluid in my 02 GT Has 128k miles, the fluid was brown, with a little red tint. Their were some metal shavings in the pan and the magnet was nice and sludgy. When we did the same thing with my dads 01 GT the fluid was still red. I have a feeling of future tranny problems D: Is this a good indicator of problems? The only thing i think is strange is when I'm at highway speed 65-70 MPH the RPM's are about 2500 and it does shift into overdrive. It seems high to me. I also had fun when I dropped the ratchet into the tub of tranny fluid .

Can someone tell me how to post a picture without having to post a link, can't figure it out. I have a pic of the nasty transmission fluid.

in the reply window 3 rd icon from the right, click it paste the img code in there, hit ok.

if you let off the gas and drive with a light foot will OD catch at say 45 mph? if not you may not have 3 rd gear any more.

driving light footed you should feel 3 rd catch around 35 mph.

i lost 3 rd gear in my trans, 1 st and 2 nd gear were still solid and i had to get up to 50 and then let off and it would catch o/d. it would feel normal unless you gave it gas to go faster and it was back in second gear screaming. i also had dark brown tranny fluid.

I would have to check in regard to OD catching at 45. It don't shift into 2nd untill about 40-45MPH then it drops to about 2k or so. But il have to check. I seem to have all 3 gears but il have to change by manually shifting to check if that is how that works

if you just hold the gas at say 1/4 throttle or less, and let it shift all by its self. you should feel 2 nd and 3 rd kick in. just make sure you have the room to hold it till 3 rd kicks in. watch the tach for it to drop when it shifts.

Shifts thru all gears fine, its seems to be shifting better then before. He is a pic of the fluid. I dropped my ratchet in that trying to tighten the last of the 20 bolts. Then as I was taking the car off the ramps, one flew out in front luckily not damaging anything.

get a little on a paper towel and snap a pic, its hard to judge when its in a pan like that

I'm assuming it was the same fluid from the factory, so about 128k miles. We disposed of the fluid already but it was pretty brown with a hint of read. Iv been busy with school so iv been slow to reply
