broken rod, disintegrated piston

has anyone ever made a piston disintegrate? ive had a tick/knock for 2 weeks, only maybe drove it 2 times with the ticking, when the car finally quit i wasnt even riding it hard, was just leaving a movie and bang, the car was done, turns out one piston is in the oil pan shattered, another has a broken rod, and i cracked the block by the dipstick tube, any idea how this all happened? i always run 91 octane

Assuming you are SC, you want to run the highest octane available.

But sure.. I've bought a car with a missing piston

No worries, you'll find that piston

It just happens, 98bucksupercharged went through 2 motors. Replaced his one that ejected a piston with another and that blew on the test drive or something lol.

Bill can I use that last picture for when people ask if they can run a 3.4 on just a CAI lol

Been there and done that. I had a valve that dropped trashing the piston. Just an innocent tick noise that was very faint then BAM......2 pistons laying on the highway. Should have taken pics of the damage.

LOL billboost37, thats exactly what it looked like on my number 4 cylinder, just ALOT more pieces, my number 3 piston broke a connecting rod and then hit the front of the block cracking it all the way across, i believe the oil pickup failed because i found one sheered off bolt and the other was gone, looks like its time for a new motor after winter time :P

This happened to me before. it was fun. Heard the knocking and drove hard for around 20-30 miles and bang lol. Only an N/A motor tho.

No worries, you'll find that piston

Didnt sound bad actually, was relatively quiet for how much damage happened, i was suprised at how bad it got damaged, i knew when it would roll over and bind that the motor was done, and the smoke from under the hood over my hid's :P

I just spun the #1 rod bearing in my car and am just heading out to start assembling the bottom end. What do you plan on doing now?

well its only a summer car for me, so looking for a dd/winter car while i find a used motor to fully rebuild, plans are, cam, headers, valves, springs, .20 bore with forged pistons, colder plugs, and maybe 3.4 pulley depending if those mods can sustain it, never worked with a supercharged car before, only older chevy 350's

Well good luck man. And with a cam and headers you can Def run 3.4. On my old S1X cam'd 98 gtp I ran a 3.0 Just make sure you get something to scan for knock and tune after investing all that.
