donated to get this wow
Since Ive been on this sight I have seen alot of post about engine failures
And or trans failures
:th_mechanic:
Any one with a failure major enough to cause a rebuild post it here with failure and mileage and year of cr and any other relavent info such as style of driving mods and size of rims.

Im just curious of conditions and such My gtp has 180xxx on it and doesnt show any real wear other then the s/c coupler going out.

Any how post em up

broken trans, stock non-hd at 135k miles full of utter abuse.

blew up a motor with 113k miles from running it with no oil. ran for three days after i did that.

Nope,

I have 170,000 on my car. Bought it in 2002 and started modding it since day one, I haven't had a major failure at all, that includes my tranny. My stock tranny works and its in my shed with 150,000 miles on it. I only replaced it because I wanted a stonger, geared, stalled tranny I can take to the track on slicks. My motor is the original long block, still hold 50-55 psi oil pressure at idle too. I can drive the car anywhere and everywhere without worrying about it.

My secret? Maintence. I use conventional oil, change it every 2,500-3,000 miles. I don't run synthetic and run my oil 10,000- 15,000 miles like I hear some people do, thats crazy IMO. I drop my tranny pan every 20k like clock work. A little maintence goes a long ways, along with the CORRECT size pulley and a preoper tune with the owner always scanning. I think alot of the failures can be prevented if the key things I stated were done and always done. Also people getting used GTPs, previous maintence matters alot too. From what I can tell, my car was taken care of the first 55,000 miles of its life before me.

I by far don't baby my car, i'm not a complete asshole either. Back in 2002-2005 my car was street raced nearly ever Friday and Saturday. Couldn't tell ya how many passes I have on it, hundreds probably. I grew up and got out of that scene, its not for me anymore. The Track is the only place to go. It lives an easier life now, though I plan on bolting on some slicks soon and seeing what she'll do...

My black GTP has about 147,000 miles on it, it hasn't had any major issues either and its been raced a bit too. My wife used to race it in the 1/4 alot when we were dating. Its on the original motor and tranny and its on the same schedule as my GTP...

Been through the first trans at 140k, forward drive band broke, had slipping 3rd anyways, rebuilt it good to go. Then the first engine went, spun #1 rod bearing, oil pump failure, trashed. Got new block went to l36 and rebuilt, good to go. Raced a mustang one night a while later, on a 3.4 w/dhp 1.0 pcm and at 120mph blew out #1 piston. New block replaced with another l36 rebuilt it. Ran from a cop one day with same setup and blew #5 exhaust valve to hell, pulled front head and replaced the valve. Then recently, my tranny decided that it wanted to have the entire final drive explode, so now currently no car and trying to get going on the tranny rebuild again.

Thats my story lol.

Oh yea, forgot to add... 99 GTP , I drive the piss out of it. The other failures other than my own fault were probably just due to the fact that i bought it with 135k and they probably did no maintenance on it at all. Oh well.

Its all about Maintenance Mines got 180xxx on it and im the second owner My rebuilds coming but Only due to the fact Im ready to mod not due to failure

I guess it seems like i always hear the worst about cars here and other forums
and who evers car blew up it seems like they blame the car instead of there neglecting the car.

I beat on mine abit but she gets all the regular maintenance she needs
Hell my buddy helped drive my dually c30 over to my new house and was amazed how well it runs and its got close to 300xxx on it with no rebuilds.

I had my stock tranny blow chucks at 90k. Now at 98k the motor is still going strong and the new rebuilt tranny is pretty much holding its own.

Me...hmm too many?

First motor lost it to a ZZP PCM...chipped pistons...and shattered shirts. Tried to replace the one piston on the cheap...ran for a bit then spun the opposite #5 bearing.

Second motor...had a lifter tick I didn't take care of...I still don't think it failed...I think I had an injector run lean because the spark plug melted into the head and it was bone white with the head of the valve gone.

Third Motor...oil pump failed or the pick up tube got clogged...whatever. Spun a bearing.

Now I am on number 4 and this thing is gonna scream...built from the ground up.

Transmission? I shredded the differential at the track one night. The stock one held numerous sub 1.9 60 foots on SVT Cobra M/T Slicks (285's)...that's how I ran a 13.4 on a stock TB, 3.4", custom tune and a XP/headers...with a full trunk, headlight in, pump 91, etc...then I went and got a TEP trans just for the hellz of it and WOW!! :D

That's my story.

at 19K miles, I snapped the tranny in half in -20* weather. I floored it off a line when it was cold.

at 23K miles, I shattered a piston and threw a rod through the oil pan, blew out the back of the block.

hence my slow turbo build.

^^nicely done lol

94k got new engine cause piece of s/c broke off and dropped down in. probably my fault. was crusing and floored it. prolly knocking a lot

I think I'm on transmission number... uhh...six, seven, eight, or maybe nine... and that doesn't include parts inside the transmission being broken and replaced.

2.8 on a GenV, 4000 stall, 3.69:1 Gears, race setting on Intense's shift kit, Hoosier slicks, N20, track bite, and the suspension mod gives the 4t65e-hd a hell of a time. :D

^Holy ****. Well, im glad i can join this thread, yesterday i shredded 4th, now i have a 3 speed :)

what happened to it man i think i MIGHT be in the same boat as you not exactly positive.....

overdrive stoped working, im told it's a stripped 4th gear, and on TEP trans info, its a common problem, and they changed the design in later models, something like 03's and up.

I guess ill just have to get a TEP trans now :D:D

It refers to the hardened 4th clutch hub... almost all of the 03 prior trannys exhibit this, the splines are not heat treated like the aftermarket ones.
