Broken exaust manifold bolt

club of used to own a gp
ok so today it was around 10* outside and so i decided to put on my new PLOG from zzp. Anyways the installation was going smoothly until i was torquing down the last manifold stud and then, SNAP! my worst nightmare, the bolt broke off and left the shank inside of the head (the one where the dipstick bolts to). I drove around for a couple of hours to see if i had a leak or not, and luckily i dont. Is there an easy way to get the bolt out or is it a remove the intake manifold and heads project?

P.S. Gen V Top swap is on the way, probably by late spring or summer. Would it be ok to leave in the shank until then?

well if no leak now in the cold that you have I doubt it will leak later on but who knows.

being you are doing a top swap in the near future i would just let it go.

alter on you will probably just have to do something like tack on another bolt to the part that is sticking out so you can remove it with a socket.

you can get an eazy-out "kit" at autozone, comes with various size drill bits and easy-outs.
you drill a hole in the broken stud and put the easy-out in the hole giving it a slight tap with a hammer and then use a wrench at the end of the out and back the broken stud out.
easy as busting your knuckles and cursing, alot.

yeah but where he has his problem I don't think he can get to it with out dismantling the thing. I would hold off being you are doing the top swap, not really a big deal.

well if he is doing a top-swap then it probally isnt a big deal, but if he is going to be driving it for a while before doing so then it would be in his best intrest to fix his mess.

unless I'm missing something how does a top swap help with removing an exhaust bolt out of the head? The might be a little more room to look at the problem but with the head on the car the space issue remains.

Well if he does the top swap as many others have it makes sense to pop the heads while you are there have them worked and ported to match the intake and decked and replace the head gaskets ....

atleast that is how I do mine...

better to do it while you are already there right?

A top swap is swapping heads from a L67 and adding a supercharger, then putting them on my L36.
