• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Well I'm where I hoped I wouldn't be for a while again:

Lost power and that's what I found.

Top side is dry, no signs of case leaking. It looks like the cv axle might have popped out? Idk. Not wanting to kill myself under the car. Just bored waiting for tow truck. I'll keep posting as I find stuff out.

how new is that axle seal? looks brand new. some times some brands just dont fit the axle shaft there. theres a few threads here about that BS.

when you installed the axle did you push it in till it clicks and then try to tug it back out?

Made it home! Good news is that I don't think I suffered any transmission damage, but the axle did pull out, dumping my trans fluid all over the highway. It's too cold to do much tonight so I'll have to inspect things in the morning.

Not sure if it's the axle clip or if it's actually pulling out of the differential. Either way still sucks. I'm hoping for the best.

That sucks but hey, on the plus side maybe the coating of trans fluid will help keep the rust away during the winter? Hopefully it's just the clip though.

Was hoping that the reason that the cv axle was slipping was due to the clip. I was wrong....

Cv axle wasn't going on all the way even without the clip and tapping on the boot with a mallet. Didn't want to damage the differential so I ended up pulling BOTH axles, the differential, and the output shaft. I was really hoping that my issue was that the output shaft had come loose from the differential, but upon removing the cover, it's still on there...

Completely removed the shaft and lo-and-behold, the splines on the drive shaft are misshapen.

Scary thing is that I've been driving around with an axle that wasn't on all the way, and I didn't even know it!!! (the fact it didn't come off sooner is impressive)

At this point, I'm going to see if I can muster the funds to upgrade to hd final drive. At least I know that it's nothing I did, and hopefully didn't damage the transmission!

If the output shaft is what you mean is bad.. go to a jy and snag one out of an NA car. drop it in and be done cheap and easy. It's as tough as pulling the diff cover as you know.

The difference between the HD and non hd is about 1/4" of length.

Well, crisis possibly averted... I'm a moron and have been driving around for 2000+ miles with the output shaft reversed!

The fact nothing had happened sooner astounds me! Had to remove a bunch just to flip it around, but just got done. Haven't had time to drive it since, but it does go into gear, and isn't leaking fluid, so I'll call it at least a partial success. Not sure how I reversed it either...

Just glad it wasn't something costly!

So when it rains it pours.... Just found this on the ground after getting everything back together.... fml

For those of you who have the pleasure of not knowing what this is, it's the front differential bearing, yes, inside the transmission...

Good news is that I didn't drive it after getting things back together. Bad news is that I did start the car momentarily and it's all back together.

Hopefully I didn't run it long enough to do major damage, but for sure I'll be tearing things back apart and dropping the pan to see what it looks like... wish me luck...

That looks like the roller thrust washer that goes between the diff. housing and the final drive unit, or it goes under the sun gear (inside final drive).
Pay close attention to the direction for installation.

It's the thrust washer. I'm embarrased I made such a noob move when getting it back together. Best part is that when I overhauled the transmission myself, I didn't miss a single part, but when doing something as simple as reversing the driveshaft I leave out something major! Just a bad week...

Got everything apart again and no sign of damage! Got everything back together and it's running ok now. Taking it to a buddy of mine to get pressure test and full system scan and test.

Unfortunately, I go to put the wheel back on and....

That's what I'm hoping too. So far so good on the car. Guess that means I can start spending money on mods again! Haha
