Brakes...brakes...brakes

Hello everyone...I need some advice.

I drive an 2005 GXP and last October, I had both the front and back rotors and pads changed. A bit costly to say the least but it needed to be done.

Last week, during a 90,000 mile service, I was informed that I needed new rotors and pads in the front. The rotor was less than 1/32nd and couldn't be machined (their words).

I dropped by the place that did the installation and asked them if it was truly possible that I needed brand new rotors and pads after just 13 months and 13,500 miles.

I don't drive slow. I don't drive aggresively. I drive...well...average!

Is this "normal" wear and tear on brakes? It seems to me that they should have lasted longer than this.

Thanks for any input you can provide!

doubtful. id double check that with someone else if youre not car friendly. iirc gxp rotors cant be machined because theyre drilled.

Sounds like they are trying to rip you off. Like Odi said, you can't machine the drilled rotors, so it's not even an option.
I bet those rotors don't even have surface rust on them yet.
Girl I work with had an auto parts store offer to machine her rotors for $65, until I looked them up and told her new ones were $40 at autozone. Garages take advantage of people with brakes.
When you brake, if you feel a pulsing, grinding, you need new rotors.

Thanks for the advice. I got my GXP in 2007 and replaced the rotors/brakes in late 2010. Here it is, early 2012, and having to replace them again just doesn't make much sense.

I'm going to take my car into another Brake shop and get a 3rd opinion.

Thanks!
Scott

Are they grinding, pulse in the pedal? Loud noise? If not and you are stopping fine then I wouldn't worry about it....
