Suppose a brake rotor manufacturer made four sets of rotors from the same material, same quality, etc. They make the following sets:

  • Drilled Rotors
  • Slotted Rotors
  • Drilled & Slotted Rotors
  • Not Drilled & Not Slotted Rotors
Each set is being sold at the same price. All else being equal, which set would you buy? Why?

:th_thumbsup-wink:

this cant be a serious question. if you dont say drilled and slotted then youre an idiot.

however, each has it's benefits. that being said, for a street car you dont need either drilled or slotted rotors, let alone both.

slots dont do anything since modern pads don't gas much after they've been bedded.

drilled doesnt do much since the main issue with cooling your brakes is the lack of venting from the front of the vehicle to the rotor via a brake duct.

Personally, drilled looks best but its more expensive in the real world and doesnt benefit you anything but bling.

Slots are also more expensive in the real world and do nothing but chew your pad up faster.

Both might help if you have issues with no brakes when the rotors are soaked, but that comes down to your wheels really.

Overall, i'd like me some rotors made with QUALITY STEEL in the USA. High quality blanks is what you're looking for, not what "features". Higher quality blanks resist warping better than the cheap **** does.

Go for some Centric premium rotors. Made in the USA, electro coated in every place BUT where the pad makes contact with the rotor so it wont rust, will look good and wont warp.

moral of the story is, you're a ****tard for settling for lower quality rotors just for the look of it.

and anyone who claims they buy drilled rotors for the cooling, have you EVER had brake fade with a proper high temp pad?

i always have ran drilled and slotted. Better stopping power, and I know they run cooler when braking so they are less prone to warping. Very happy with the sets i've had on 2 different cars. the brand is R1 Concepts

better stopping power how? dont say it has more bite because it doesn't.

Well, he may have had worn our brakes, and put on the drilled/slotted, and thus the "better stopping power."

But I really think if we're trying to get better performance out of our brakes, gotta get a 12" setup.

you are correct. BIGGER rotors help out our stopping power a bunch, but the main thing to take into consideration are the PADS. even on stock brake calipers and rotors you can get the car to stop considerably better with a nice set of pads.

Yep, I forget what pads I got on my car last time I did a brake job, cost i think 80 for both sides on the front. But they really did help me stop more quickly.

Though I do want to get some mean ass 12"s on the front sometime.

I did this, EBC red stuff all around. I dont WANT better brakes. :th_nervous:

got r1 concepts slotted rotors, hawks hps ready to put on and waiting for my ATE Typ 200 brake fluid to arrive.

brake fluid will NOT make a difference in a street car.

flushing it annually will though.

Sombody needs to tell Porsche that they are wasting good money by placing cross-drilled rotors on the Boxter® models. Porsche is not interested in "bling", just making their car STOP! And, if you've ever driven them, they DO stop as well as they go!:)

..so youre saying its the drills and slots in the rotors, not the rotor diameter, beefy calipers, or the nice pads they run? hmm...

No flame for quoting another site Matt, but the link is specifically for RX Mazda owners and some of the statements, no such thing as warped rotors, are just plain stupid.
I spent many years in the brake business, as a GM Factory trained service 'tech' and in the aftermarket supply business. I don't know about anyone else but, when you take a rotor with 4 or 5 k on it, mic it and it is NOT worn at all, put in in a rotor lathe and start a cut and it misses the rotor in exactly the same spots from hub to edge, yes, you can SEE it, then tell me what you call it if not warped?
According to the logic on the Mazda site, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, looks like a duck and 'Audubon' says it's a duck, it is probably a seagull!
