Brake Rotor Question

I have a question about drilled/slotted brake rotors.
When installed, which direction should the slot be going?
Should they sweep forward or backwards?

I have looked at many pictures online of different cars and there seems to be a 50/50 split as to how they are installed.

Does it even matter?

Slotted rotors are sold as side specific.

So if you order a pair, you'll have to order one right and one left.

Couldnt tell you which way though.

They were sold as a pair but when they came both have the same part number on the box and are not labeled. They are definitely different however. I have contacted the company I bought them from already but thought I'd check here for an answer as well.

EDIT:
I checked and actually they were not sold as a pair.
I ordered 2 front rotors and they sent the correct items.

2nd pic is correct... i ordered powerslots and thats how they said to put them on... they also said if u like the look of them the other way... its fine to do so it will not hurt them.

What matters isn't the direction of the slots on the outside of the rotor, but the direction of the cooling vanes on the inside of the rotor. The cooling vanes inside the rotor should sweep back like the slots in the first picture. If your rotor has straight vanes, then it can be mounted either way.
 
Got an email back from Rotorwork...

"...the rotors are universal you can install them anyway you like depending on the style that you like..."

Nice link Warhellride, lots of good info. I'll check mine and see if they are vented a specific way but if rotorwork says they are universal I'm guessing not.

I also got this explanation over on the F-Body board from Joe 1320:
"They should be installed as in pic #1. The reason is so that the slots evacuate dust, debris, water and sweep it outward rather than channeling it toward the hub."

That makes perfect sense.
