Brake Rotor Ideas

you dont "need" slotted rotors but they are nice, i would not cheap out on rotors, dont get junk yard rotors.

new are about 40 to 50 a rotor, slotted can run to 100 a rotor.

Ya ill look em up, my bro wants to get em from the junkyard cause they cheap. I tell him no but he wont listen, ill have to try to convince the big guy. So i can just get the stock rotors BUT get awesome brake right?

best to buy good pads, not the cheap-o-s, that makes a big difference.

if you must go the JY route, bring one of them tools that can measure the rotor, and find out how much meat needs to be there to cut them again. not worth it tho, not when dealing with brakes. i always buy new.

Same i would buy new, and ya we will get some better brakes this time not the cheap ceramic crap we got now. Also what do you mean by cut them?

Hes referring to have them resurfaced. Usually a lathe is used to sheer off 1/1000ths to make it perfectly smooth across so you don't mess up new pads with slightly warped/oddly worn rotors.

Ah got ya, those things that they use the takes off all this dust and crap stuff to make it smooth right? Ya i think that may be not worth it but we will see, hopefully i can convince my bro to get new ones. Knowing this should help a little there and thank you guys for the info

even if you get JY rotors, for cheap then to get them resurfaced will run you about 8 to 10 bucks a rotor, and if they are warped already the lathe will cut the warp out, but they tend to warp real easy after cutting them, so in the long run its a complete waste of time and money because you'll be doing your brakes 2 times instead of once.

and your bakes will feel like a new car with "new rotors and pads"

i'd say all new from duralast or pro stop, your looking at less than 150 (45 a rotor, 50 for the best pads they sell) for all new up front. if you go to napa they have better quality parts and they cost more, but your getting what you pay for.

or shop the net, amazon, partsgeek, or who ever and try to find a good deal on brand name parts. you can save a few bucks even with shipping cost most of the time. some sites even have free shipping.

just for the fronts, rears will cost almost as much, figure 40 to 45 a rotor, and 45 to 55 for good pads, they sell them by the pair, front and back. so around 300 for the whole job or less. make a few part store runs and price it out, then come home and surf the net for better prices than you found at the store. stay away from stuff made in china. look for name brands.

others have gotten what looked like a good deal on slotted rotors off ebay, (all 4 ) and they liked them, some even come with pads. i think they were around 200 for the set. so even try that route.

troll the brake threads, the info is in there somewhere for cheap good slotted rotors.

After seeing another forum member in car video I won't ever trust ebay rotors. He was running the Nurburing and the rotor broke away from the hat. Luckily he got stopped before he hit the wall.

cheap and good do not describe the same product when it comes to brakes.

Cheap and adaquete perhaps, but not good.

i hear ya, but there was a brand a bunch of guys bought and said were working just fine. thats why i said to stay away from anything made in china.

Which is everything on ebay.

Everything in your local parts store.

And most of the stuff on rock auto.

Centric's most of the time are USA.

EBC are UK or USA.

My own "testing" indicates that ProStop from pepboys- 50 each for F-body fronts- Hold up without warping or "Hard Spotting" under hard use after proper Bed-in/ Heat cycling. Of course I've only had one set so far, but I think there's adequate quality there...re:JY, they're called junkyards for a reason-most of what's there is junk...

FWIW R1Concepts has some nice stuff. Supposedly they start with Centric blanks then coat them. 38,000 miles ago I picked up drilled/slotted eiline rotors and scorched pads (no break in) for the front of my car with F bodies. I beat then down for anyone that gets in the car to show how the F body upgrade is a good priced one. Ask ScottyDoggs or anyone else that's been here, I beat them.

The rotors have just recently started to show some small spider cracks at some drill holes. The brakes still stop amazing with nearly 40K on them. Being a daily driver, it amazing me that the rotors still show almost zero rust on the fins etc. They have not warped or thought of showing any signs of fading etc at high speed stops.

Considering that their rotors are $105 per set with free shipping (over $100) and pads are also very reasonable. I'd go with the eline slotted ($105/set) or eline stock ($65/ set) and try to find the same pads as I am amazed with them.

x2 on the E-lines. I got my set at the end of last summer, only have about 10k on them so far but they are fantastic, and I only went for the OEM replacements. I would like to get the pro series and opt for the bigger 12"s later on. Spent about $300 for the full set and the better pads on the Eline series, about $450 for the pro set, I was tight on money at the time otherwise I would have spent the extra bank on the pros.
