Brake lines

Hey all, I have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP that a rear brake line has rusted thru. I am going to try the NiCopp and fittings solution and fab it myself. Question is, what fittings do I need from the ABS unit back to the rear wheels? Also, should 50 feet of the tubing do both sides? If you guys have a good source for the fittings, I would appreciate any links you can put in your replies. Thanks :D
 


my rear line blew out in the rear sub frame. i just cut the line in the ds rear wheel well, in a open area, then did the same to the other side before its union block to the rubber hose, ran the new line behind the gas tank and used compression fittings.
 
50' will do the entire vehicle. do not run completely straight lines as they will stress from movement. a on car tubing bender is ideal as it will make really tight bends...this style http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Heavy-Du...s-3-16-and-1-4-Tube-Size-Bender-/252172600534

nicopp is the best choice just make sure it is zip tie in numerous places to prevent stress from vibration.

I replace the compression fittings at the flex line but reuse the fittings at the abs pump. I find the original fittings thread in easier to the aluminum bpmv housings; especially when you have tension from the tubing making it hard to start the fitting into the threads. I have never had a leak. the fittings at the flex hose are smaller, rusted and in poor condition so those I replace...not sure on the size....if you live in the rust belt, any jobber should stock metric and std thread fittings. take the old fitting with you.

perform a gravity bleed, then manually bleed then have someone with a scan tool perform an auto system bleed.

at my autozone the fuel and brake lines are in the back, 1/2 the dummys at the counter dont know its there lol

that repair in the pic cost me like 20 bucks. a 5 foot length of line and 2 compression fittings. i got about a foot left over.
 


Hit up the commercial guy at the parts store or ask them if they have a bulk pack of fittings. Price is about double vs buying one and you'll end up using them if one line is bad.
 
I went to the local pick & pull and after looking under a few WBody cars found a couple completely rust free. I took off the both whole lines which were easily sneaked passed the cross member, I even got one extra passenger line. Paid like $5 for complete OEM rear brake lines. There are so many of these cars in the bone yards now and not all of the lines rusted.
 
Well, 2 days later and done. Turned out it was the front right brake line leaking, right where the line is attached to the firewall insulation. I would love to kick the engineer that came up with that mounting idea in the balls. The leak was directly above the rear lines so the fluid was dripping on the aft lines and presenting as a leak in those. I got it taken care of though and ran the line for the front line along the firewall as suggested. It made life a LOT easier. Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it.
