Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

bout to give up

well to the dealer it goes...now its having a hard time starting..
1, new gas cap
2. new idle air control valve
3. new MAF sensor
4. new coils
5. new plugs and wires
6. new TPS
Cleaned the ignition control module, rechecked the plugs...now throwing an evac code. Time for the dealer to smoke it. I give up trying to find the problem...
The MAF sensor did clear up the part where it cuts out...service engine light on...Damn car is really starting to piss me off. Never had this problem on my old car, 98 Buick Reagl GS...the Grand Prix is the kids car...guess this is why Buick is still selling cars and Pontiac has gone by the wayside...too bad too, I REALLY LIKE this Grand Prix

the Regal and the GP are the same car man. Just looks different.
I thought it sounded like the EGR valve. I've had two cars do kinda what you're saying and EGR valve fixed them both.
Like Scotty says, need the code.

well it threw a P0102 OBD-II Trouble Code...MAF Sensor...which I replaced..I checked the wires and connections. All I can figure is I got a bad MAF..
Yes ShiftingShaddow, I do know they're the same car, same motor (mY GS was a much better built cushy ride though)...Never had the problems though that this car is having

I didnt pull back all the insulation wrap because it T's off with other wires. I pulled back about an inch. looked for frays, and tugged lightly to make sure they're seated good..not much more I can do. It never stalled like it does with the new one. It cut out some with the original but started everytime. Idled rough though. Cleaned the old one again really good. All I can do is hope now

well, 21 under the hood is a spare. peeled back alot more coating. looks good. I've read here, that if I unplug the MAF sensor with the car off and try to start it, if it starts, its the MAF...is that true????? If so, I did that and it started just fine

in the car fuse box, not under the hood.

un plugging it put the engine in closed loop, pre set settings. so yes it could be a bad maf still.

bend the plug end where the wires meet the end, look for cracks there, if you see wire its bad.

Scotty, no. 21 fuse...whats it called...under the hood they're numbered, not under the dash

Okay, just bought a CARDONE MAF sensor. Just installed it. Left the battery diconnected overnight as to reset the check engine light. We took it for a ride, and the light never came back on. We're going to let it set for several hours for everything to cool down, then take it for a ride again to make sure.
my question is, if it was the fuse, would it not have kept the check engine light on no matter how long it set and after reconnecting the battery

i commented because you insinuated the reason GM canned pontiac and not buick was because of poor build quality in the pontiac (because you are having problems with this current one). but the regal gs and the gtp are the same car with a different body. same engine, transmission, intake, drive-train, brakes, struts, control arms.......you could just as easily have the same exact problem with the gs as the gtp.

i don't care. im not defending pontiac. i just wasn't sure if you knew. thats all.

No biggie Shifting... alls good. I loved my GS, and I really like the kids car too. I appeciate all the advise and help given. I'll get the thing fixed one way or another. Plan on keeping it for long while...I'm no mechanic.. back yard mechanic thats teaching myself with help from others and YouTube...I am getting better at it. I'm able to find my tools now after I throw them. Before...lets just say....they're "STILL" missing

yeah that's where im at too. just learning as i go. learned a lot from this board and just digging in. just when you think you've got a handle on things there's another problem that pops up and something new to learn. some of these problems can really drive a person mad, though.
