bought a gtp for 400 with engine knock

Just bought a 2000 gtp for 400 dollars. It has a fwi, headers, and a 3.4 pulley with no tune previous owner told me he had a tune from zzp and just sold the pcm. He said he was running the car on stock pcm and out of nowhere he started the engine and it started knocking well I bought it from him and check the oil and it had none so I pour 3 quarts on it and still was knocking removed the belts and still is knocking and lots of smoke from exhaust I guess I'll just get a used motor from the jy well here are some pictures of the car

Stock PCM w/ a 3.4 would explain the knock. Probably chipped a piston. The smoke is immaterial at this point as it sounds like its done. JY motor it is. Nice looking car otherwise.

Check flexplate.


No oil condition would explain knock though.

btw our cars take 5qts
 
Well they actually take 4.5 quarts. I been reading of flex plate but don't know how to inspected which I don't really think its the flexplate because of all the exhaust smoke
 
if you where close to the indiana area i have a buddy that gives me complete gtp engines for 250 cash with the gen 3 blower included LOL doesnt know what he has and he gets alot of them also gives ht65e hd trans for 150 thats where i got my used one from and it works great
 
No oil = awesome .... Lol jk dude pretty nice pick up just get a good used or rebuild. I rebuilt mine and its great. I also was under the impresion that 4.5 is where its at.
 


Yeah I had to grab it since it was 400$ yeah I probably will go tomorrow to the jy u pull it since they have a huge inventory of cats and sell everything really cheap. For a complete motor they sell at 200$ and 00grandprix if I don't find one is your friend willing to shop?
 
I'm still undecided if I should get a l26/l32 block and just top swap it with the rest of this engine, should I or just stick with another motor and try to sell the top swap?
 
would have to ask him most likely he seems to get alot of cars and always does me right always has the stuff pulled while im on my way lol he uses a 99 bonni as a circle track car and a demo car has the rad in the back seat funny as hell to watch a superchagered bonni go rip it up on the track then go into the demo
 


get a l36 short block put a cam in it and the top swap stuff you have along with headers and a dyno tune thatd be a sick GP
 
Yeah that's maybe what I'm gonna do and sell the top swap of old motor. Would really like a cam but don't have that big of a budget, would rather fix up the car then sell and get the money for my mods on my 04
