This has been bugging me for a few days. I recentlyput together a new computer rig together and everything works fine. Boot time was amazingly fast, ~10 seconds. However, for some reason, installing windows updates, or pretty anything else completely slows down boot time. It takes ~a minute and 16 seconds now.

I tried a windows installation twice, and I even tried a different Windows to see if that fixed the problem, but it didnt. I've tried everything to my knowledge and nothing worked.

Any computer whiz with the slightest idea to what's going on?
 


First boot took ~10 seconds because it had NOTHING loaded. It has gone up because it has to compile the background files together so that you programs that start when windows boots come up with it. That and the updates mixed will slow it down a little. Nice thing about windows 7 is it likes to use resources to have base files ran in the background so they pop up faster once you click on them. This pulls on the system, along with every update you add and if you have alot installed and auto-starting with windows can really pull load times.
Mine takes about a min to come up with a 3.4quad, 4GB ddr3 1600 ram (about to jump to 8 or 16gb depending), and a sata 6.0Gb/s WD 640Gb drive. When I first setup the system it was like ~10-15 sec but it has slowed over the years and take a min or so, but once its up it ready to go and fast as ****.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, now it takes like 5 mins, or runs slow once its loaded, or starts having errors then you likely have a list of problems that need to be addressed.
 
The thing is, the second time I installed Windows 7, I had Windows Updates disabled. I had Steam, Guild Wars 2, and Borderlands installed which were much bigger than the entire 123 updates I had to do. That still booted up within that same time frame.

Maybe I am expecting too much out of this build, though I expected a 3.2 Ghz 3930k and an SSD to make things blazingly fast upon boot time.
 
If you don't already use it, get CCleaner. Go to Tools - Startup and check out what's in there under the windows tab. If you don't know what it is or don't need it, disable it, reboot and see if something is missing.

I run a Q9550 and an SSD with Win 7 64. Steam and Avast are my only startup items. Boot time is around 15-20 seconds. Would be quicker if the POST wasn't so slow with this motherboard.
 
The only thing running is the ASROCKXTU which is an overclocking and montiroing program for the motherboard.

Other than that, everything else is already disabled, which are only 3 other items.
 
Where does it hang? The animated windows logo or the loading screen just before the desktop?

The Windows logo comes together and dims in and out for about a minute before it goes to the login screen.

In that case, it doesn't sound like a software issue. Did you set AHCI mode in BIOS before formatting the SSD?
 


I almost bought the 240GB version of that exact model last month. The only reason I didn't is that I really don't need it.

I'm stumped on the startup speed though. Sounds like you've covered the basics. That should be as fast or faster than my system. I'll keep it in mind. I often walk away from a problem like this and then an idea pops into my mind randomly, a couple hours later.

In an older system, asking the amount of memory would be among my first questions, but I'm guessing you have 4 GB or more, so that's not really a concern anymore. Memory errors would be a possible cause I suppose, but I doubt it. To be safe you could run memtest. I've seen stranger things cause seemingly unrelated problems, so I wouldn't rule it out completely.

If you figure it out, let us know what the problem is.
 
I have 16 gigs of memory, which is definitely more than enough.

To be honest, as of now I am stumped but I'll defintiely let you know if I figure it out.

You do the same if you find something out. I should try memtest.
 
OK so I am guessing the problem is from the ssd, even though tests check out. Speeds on AS SSD program are good too. Firmware was updated, and even tried installing windows without the HDD connected.

Hell the HDD booted up in 30 seconds MAX. I really don't get why its taking the ssd almost a minute and a half.

I hope contacting Corsair does me some good...
