Doesn't more boost mean more hp, then lowering the boost mean lowering the hp?
"boost" or positive manifold pressure is a result of the resistance to flow of the engine. the less efficient the engine airflow, the more boost since the air cant get through.
more air, more fuel, more power. put headers and an open dump/cam/rockers/etc on it and youll reduce the "boost" since the engine pumps air better...but make more power sinc eyou can actually USE that air, and add more fuel to get the power.
this is why you need to look at the whole system. engine, valvetrain, gearing, exhaust when building a car.
on the TR we made 608whp and nearly 575ftlbs of tq at only 5500 rpm and 18 psi.
there are cars with far less in terms of flow massaging that manage 500+ at more psi than we do...we are more efficient, so less boost is present even though we move more air.
open garden hose. no restriction, full flow of water, zero pressure.
put thumb over end, restriction present, partial flow of water, pressure builds
