boost leak/ vac leak

Re: Accuracy of scangauge II boost reading?

Whether the bbv is the problem or not, it is not the gauge's fault lol

I figured it was right, but I sealed everything good when I put this thing back together. I'd have a hard time believing that it could be anything but the BBV.

Anybody have the write up with pics? ZZP has the write-up, but the pics have vanished.

Re: Accuracy of scangauge II boost reading?

Or uh.. it could be that when I removed EGR I used a nickel and nothing else to seal up the port on the intake manifold.. I guess it could be leaking there.

I'd check out your egr to make sure it's not leaking

Yeah, first step was to go ahead and seal that ****er up gudentite and see if I get regular vacuum and boost back. If not, it's onto my BBV. If it's still ****ed after all that I'm going to curl up into the fetal position and cry.

Well, I went out there, started it up, let it idle, it was at -8.5 bst, and gave everything under vacuum a good little shot of brakleen but it had no effect, not even on the EGR blockoff I made. Shot a little into the intake to test it and it revved up, so I know that it's at least doing something, but everything else seems to be sealed up tight. I haven't yet tested blocking off the BBV, but would that cause a vacuum leak? Other than that I'm out of clues.

Any help?

Well, I hooked it up to an actual vacuum gauge and it was reading -17 to -19 which is normal, so now I'm thinking it's probably just a boost leak. What's the best place to start hunting for something like that? Faulty bbv? Faulty Map?

Well, it's not as bad as it seems. I guess maybe I wasn't watching the scangauge carefully last time. Took her for a run this morning and after she was all warmed up I put the hammer down. Peaked at 9.2psi boost.

Still a little low though, isn't it? I mean I have a 3.4" pulley and shouldn't that be near 11lbs?
