Boost BYpass Valve capped Off?????

OK so ive been wondering why my cam'd 3.2 setup GTP was only running a best of 14.05@101mph at the track. NOW BE NICE IM A 3800 newb and new to BOOST. Even after a headgasket and header install my friends and I failed to notice the BBV was capped off. (pics below) We noticed this when we were finishing up welding up my OBX headers this weekend. In the first pic below you can see the 2 inch little rubber hose with a screw in the end of it plugging it up. I think my buddy did this when I first bought the car and tried putting my ported throttle body on it. I took the rubber hose off and its a whole new animal. However Im gonna be safe and take it easy until I can scan it for knock and re-tune.

The clamp thingy originally held a small foam filter.

Yeah, that nipple has to be open to atmosphere for the BBV to work correctly.

if you have a cam and a 3.2 and arent scanning for knock on the daily with a aero or your choice thats just silly IMO....you were prob knocking like MF or still are if you running 14's on that setup....

i ripped out that hose also and put a L fitting on the FPR and unplugged the Boost Bypass Solenoid and removed all the vac line you will need to delete a code if you dont want a CEL but it is completely fine to do this i have had no issues....

either your knocking or cant launch your car because i have a buddy running a 13.6 on mods simliar to mine...and my est. 1/4 is a 13.8 so something is def not right...

I had the same problem only the large wire harness that is right there was pressing against so hard it was blocking that port, and the foam thingy was mangled. So all I did was clean it off and put a little rubbber 90 degree fitting on it pointing down to help keep dirt out. And your right, A WHOLE NUTHER ANIMAL!!!!

So wait...you put a 90* bend on the BBV AFTER you got it running right? Sorry if you didn't...got lost in thought and it is still early lol

Its not that Im knocking like a MO FO or cant launch the car?? The car was tuned with the BBV plugged/capped off :th_scratchhead: So im at 0 knock. Im tuning/scanning tonight so well see what the car is really capable of.

You could have been only hitting 5psi max at the time you ran. Given you had a 3.2" pulley on it taking away that extra power, 14's sound about right.

With a cam and a 3.2 if it's done right and you're not knocking you should be in the 12s...

Thats what all the GP guys at the track were saying yet not one noticed my BBV capped off :th_laugh-lol2:

I started to re-tuned today with my buddy. I'm at 18* of timing and just a blip of KNOCK above 5200. Ran outta time today but should be knock free by tomorrow. I think im gonna drop to a 3.0 pulley as well.

i agree with more timing. the car will feel like it runs better that way as well.

Like how much more?? 19*-20* I dont want to start floating any heads. A local guy with a similar setup as mine but with a SSIC tried 22* and floated his heads.

I tuned a S1X cammed genV regal that ran 12.8's all day in the 1/4 on stock timing tables and a 3.3 pulley. It will vary from car to car, but I agree with running a 3.2 and up the timing. Do you have 42# inj?

if it were me i would personally stop at 18* and go for more boost then just because that how i like to run my cars, but timing is free power and you have to take advantage of it while you can.
