bolts on fbody brake upgrade

i purchase a set of calipers and bracket to perform my 12" brake upgrade. i got everything needed from ebay except the bolts that secure the caliper bracket to the spindle (12mm of the camaro). i dont have easy access to taping the bracket to 14mm so i bought a set of those sleeves. do anyone no the dimension of the bolts that would work? would m12x1.75x40mm work - grade 8 bolts from the auto parts store? the dealer wants $4.80 per bolt. shipping from michigan, but i cant wait! additionally, the bolts from the store are threaded all the way.

My local ACE Hardware store had the M14x2.00 tap for $9.

I took my brackets and tap to the machine shop at school and they tapped it for free.

Yea you could. Or you could ship to me and ill powderocoat them to match your powdercoated calipers. No charge.

i am going to take you guys advice and not run the sleeves. i think am force to tap it myself due to time. can i used a regular drill to slowly open the hole to 14mm and then tap it 14mm x 1.75 tap and thread? should a 14mm drill bit be my final drill or 13mm and then tap with a 14mm tap?

Send the brackets to me ill tap them!! Do not run the sleeves!!

No. Its a 15/32" drill bit and then a m14x2.0 tap. Make sure you get it nice and straight on both the drilling and tapping or the holes may not line up. You have a little play in the spindle but not much.

Why the time crunch?

thanks for the quick response minichopper. i have to go down to the hardware store and get a m14 x 2 tap.

why the hell not

I have been running them for over 4 years never had any problems.
Dont be spitting that bull ****

Yes tapping them is the proper way, but the sleeves work fine.

Hmm... interesting.

Maybe this is the reason that zzp no longer sells the kit with the sleeves, they are tapped. Many people have stated that the sleeves cause damage and to be honest i think its safe to say that the majority rule is that bigger bolts are better.

And I've even heard that even tapped they will loosen and will have to be retightened after a couple brakes but they will seat and be fine afterwards.

They must have been pansies. My 12" upgrade uses the same bolts as we all know and never had a problem loosening at all.

I honestly dont trust that fourm so much... " OH YEAH 3.4" PULLEY ON JUST A 3" DP"

Right.....

Come either fall or spring, its f body's via you.

Powercoated for 175 is quite the deal.

Who knows, probably cheaper for them to get them tapped in the long run since they order in bulk..

Who said the sleeves cause damage? And damage to what? I never heard anybody saying that.

tomorrow going to install my 12" f-body set. even though i have all spacers and extra 12mm bolts, I will find a place and re-tap my brackets to 14mm. just to be on the safe side.
