Blowing smoke with supercharger

I just rebuilt this engine 2003 GTP L67, fired it up and it blows smoke. It isnt terrible, seems to be more when the engine idles. Then I took the SC off and saw oil apparently leaking from the SC into the intake. (assuming it is seals on rotor pack) I have another SC, so I put it on and I still get the smoke. If I remove the SC belt almost all the smoke is gone.
Could the SC seals go bad from sitting in the garage with no oil in them? Both of them?

Would the smoke be caused from something else besides oil leaking into intake?

I don't think theres enough oil in a charger for that. Is there any oil leakage around the pcv area? You have a good pcv in the chargers with the o-ring in place?

About 1/3 of the brand new oil I just put in the supercharger was gone (in about 40 miles of driving). I drained it back into the bottle it came from. The PCV is new and the Oring is there. I cant say with 100% confidence that the oring is seated exactly right but it seems pretty obvious the oil is coming from the SC.

Sounds like you need to re-seal the supercharger snout. Pull it off, and use an anaerobic sealant. Make sure the mating surfaces are clean and no supercharger oil is on them.

That's odd to me. The rotors are sealed from the gears. The gears and snout have the oil. Both are in front of where any oil should be able to get into the LIM or the rotors.

OH4CompG - If it were leaking there (between the snout and rotor pack plate), I would imagine it running down the front of the motor. This is going straight into the intake.

BillBoost37 - I dont really see how the rotor pack is sealed. What is really weird is both of these blowers seem to be doing it. Though I havent pulled the sceond one off and looked into the intake, the smoke is still prevalent.

Right.. I've never seen one smoke. I've had some laying on the shelf for a couple years and never have a problem. How much oil are you putting in them? Should only take 8oz to fill to the bottom of the threads. There's a porous plug on the snout end to allow pressure out. There is some sort of seal where the shafts come through that plate and has the gears on them.

I put the bottle in from ZZP, it was 6 ounces I believe, though it didnt come all the way up to the threads.

Interesting you say, "porous plug on the snout end to allow pressure out" because when I installed the second blower I didnt hook the belt up right away. I drove it a few miles when I opened the filler screw to put the oil in, there was pressure coming out of the snout. I assumed the air being heated inside built pressure. I did not know it should bleed off somewhere.

at the pulley end, the shaft/hole in the shaft gets a plug and that's where oil would leak out if you left a charger on it's nose. However.. you shouldn't be seeing any pressure building up in the oil area of teh charger.

I dont see this hole? It is in the aluminum snout housing? Is it possible this hole is plugged/obstructed and causing pressure to build and push oil through the rotor pack??

This might make total sense now. When I switched blowers I still used the same snout, so if that snout isnt "breathing" then maybe it is pushing the oil through the seals??? The snout with the pulley that has this "hex" nut thing on it is the one I have NOT used yet. Somehow the other pulley doesnt have that on it, and it could be the problem.

I removed the SC belt and pulled the oil out of the SC. Car is still smoking, assumed it would take a while to burn out what residual oil was left in the intake but I have driven 200 miles since then. I am going to remove the SC tomorrow and see if it is related to the problem. If not, I am not sure how to diagnose it from here. The car blows smoke at startup, then I dont see any smoke while driving, only after I idle somewhere and at takeoff it is there every time. Cylinders were honed, new rings were installed, valve job was done, though the valve guides werent replaced. Not sure where to go from here.

What color is the smoke? If blueish then I would suspect that maybe the valve seals are leaking. As soon as you said it happens at startup and if you sit and idle for a while that's what makes me think seals.

Are you loosing motor oil at all?
