Blower motor speeds 1-3 quit working.

Hi everyone.

My blower motor speeds 1-3 stopped working on me tonight. I was reading a few threads about this and see that there are a couple things that that could cause the problem. I was figuring it was the resistor, but see some others said the ignition switch caused the issue. Is there I way I can figure out which is the problem without changing them both? Also, where are these items located on my car? (2002 gpgt) It was easy to get at on my sunbird but by the sounds of it it's under the dash in these cars. Thanks for any info!

Blower motor resistor is next to the blower motor. You'd come up to it from the passenger floor board towards the area behind the glove box. It's most likely the resistor as it's common for it to go bad. Even goes bad on 00-03 Montes and Impalas because they use the same part. In 04+ Montes and Imps they used an electronic module to prevent the failure...

I agree, sounds like the resistor. Also, probably the cheapest place to start.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I figured it would be the resistor, but when I was looking it up on here to find out where it was located I came across the other possible problems. I will have to pick one up this week and hope it solves the problem. Thanks again!

Yeah it's most likely is your blower motor resistor. You will be able to tell if it is bad just by looking at it, take it out and if it looks like this: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259/SyntheticShield/Blower Motor Resistor/IMG_8118a.jpg, its probably your issue. Get one from a place like Auto Zone (part #DR783) they don't cost that much.

Note: You do not have to take out all 3 mounting screws. The ones closer to the firewall just need to be loosened a little bit due to the resistor having slots for easier disassembly and reassembly.

Awesome I will pull it out tomorrow. I used to work in a garage so I can get one through them for cost. I Realized today that it's only 1 and 3 that quit. the rest still work...for now. Thanks again!
