Blower Motor or Blower Motor Resistor???

I have a 99 grand prix se 3.1

when i used to turn the air/heat on it randomly made a growling type noise then stopped. But If i turn it to the defrost setting and on #1 or #2 it warms the car from the dash but not the vents. nothing blows out of the actual vents. what could it be? blower motor? resistor?

Sounds like a blower motor to me.. I'd start with that if it was making noise

Well motor will typically just stop working. Especially if it was making a growling noise.

Resistor packs usually go out in different fan modes. Ex. 1 &2 don't work but 3 & 4 does. Sometimes they all go out but high is a separate relay that powers the fan it bypasses the resistor entirely.

If u have a volt meter you can probe the two wires going into the fan motor if there's voltage when you have the fan on then it's the blower motor. Sometimes you can wack them and they will temporarily work.. also you can drop the blower motor and see if you can physically move the blower cage if it's seized there's your answer.
