• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Bizarre Symptoms

My transmission has been sporadically staying in second when stopped, then thunking into first when I touch the gas. This happened with my Monte, when I found out I had a small leak. Fill er up, problem went away. I have no leak on this transmission, and the fluid is bright red and at the proper level.

It also acted even more bizarrely on Monday. Twice it felt like it got stuck between two gears (probably second and third.) I freaked out so badly I didn't think of checking the temperature, and it hasn't happened again since. I almost want to believe it was a couple of rough patches of road, which is what it felt like. I do have a cooler I haven't installed yet. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

Might be a common issue with the internals.

No Forward Cold

The most common cause of this problem is a worn out inner surface of the Input clutch piston. Once the inner sealing area wears it can prevent the inner lip seal for the piston from sealing properly. You may find that revving the engine up will finally get the car to move and it will BANG into gear.

You could try a product call Sea Foam Trans Tune, helps with sticking valves. I have used it in the past with good results. Wont hurt anything and its inexpensive. Install the transmission cooler right away, any of these cars should have had these factory installed hot running transmission is such a common problem.
