BG's White '05

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Tomorrow I find out what they say. Blue book is about 3900. My dad and I could probably fix it for 800ish...found some white GP parts on CL!

Also, switching my comprehensive deductible to an eighth of what it is now after this is all done. I was a poor college student when I got this car, and I never switched the policy when I started making a bit more.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

My car wouldn't start, turns out the battery is cracked. Tried jumping it, no go. And of course insurance can't come to my place, so hooray for waiting until tomorrow.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Estimate says it'll be about 4900 to fix. That's using gold plated baby seal leather parts. If they offer me what I'm hoping for (and expecting would be fair), after the deductible, I'd have enough to pay off the car, then buy it back and fix it AND HAVE NO CAR PAYMENT! Then I can start saving up for a G8. :D

We're back in business. Figured an update is in order. It's paid off, everything bought it back for 600, and fixed it up! Spent about 550 in parts, and I'd like a new fender, but for the time being it's usable.

You definitely get what you pay for in headlights. Found semi oem ones on Amazon for about $90, and they look great but were a total pita to install. I like the chromier look of those, somethin different.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Also, no emblem on the new front bumper cover, which bums me out a bit but oh well. Totally debadged!

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Nice price on the buy back!

Glad to see you are up and running again...and the dented fender adds character.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

haha every car needs a lucky dent.

Power steering leak....again. have to try and find where it's coming from now. That whine is so awful.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

lol! It's just so happy to be on the road it wants to announce it over every turn!

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

I wish my son and I could have spent that when we rebuilt his belair after he launched it off a rock. You and your dad did a good job getting it back on the road.. Give that guy a extra hug. Power steering whine bothers me to

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Launched it off a rock?! that doesn't sound good!
I owe my dad more than I can even keep track of at this point. Always get to use his garage, tools, knowledge, and time.

I put Lucas Stop Leak in there, it was good for about a day, so it's gotta be either a pretty decent leak or a bad pump. I took the lady's HHR to school this morning. We'll see when i get home if the reservoir is empty and there's a puddle underneath.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

He found out the hard way that a 68 belair doesnt handle like GP. i will say tho that if he lanched a GP off the same rock it would be a goner

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Ohhh kinda like the ending of Grease where they whimsically float off into the sky? Except more destructive?

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

soooo...got a pretty cool new mod. i've been looking for a second car. i have an 87 mile commute one way, so i really wanted something to help ease the load on the GP, so it can go back and forth while the second car can be for around town. if something goes wrong with the GP, which at 180k, would hardly be surprising, i have something to fall back on.
in september i got a job in my field of study as a software developer, and in may i'll finally be going full time and on salary. this is my present to myself.

2013, 9300 miles, auto trans. no mods planned yet, at under 10k i'd like to keep it unmolested, just in case i feel differently about it later.

but i'm pretty much giddy right now.

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Two weeks til i'm full time at three times the hourly i made a year ago, money isn't so tight anymore. Funny how quickly things can change! Ordered struts for the GP, trying to decide on springs. Steering leak is fixed, replaced the hose again. Looking into a different sound system. Dashlinq4 with a single sub, then finally amplify my fronts.

FR-S will be dropping too, on decidedly more expensive equipment... we'll see how long i can hold off voiding the warranty! already drooling over an Innovate supercharger. It's crazy though, drive the Scion around town, leisurely mind you, and all these kids drive like total f-nuts around me. Price to pay i suppose!

Re: Brian's White 2005 - Ivy

Ordered SSCs, waiting until we move into the new place to install. In the meantime I repainted the fascias, this time carefully and with like...knowledge and the capacity to do it RIGHT... removed my subs because racekar, still looking for a white fender! I might find a wrecked gt and steal the dual exhaust off that, or just do an aftermarket exhaust...just have no idea what I want. Low rumble, not so much an annoying rasp.
