Best way to pull Engine and Trans?



Thank you Sir for the knowledge nugget. Where exactly did you mount the chain to the head using that leveler and what size bolts are they. I will snag one of those babies. that will definitely help when putting it back in.
 
While its out it wouldn't hurt to replace the water pump since its just right there unless u have already replaced it. I would also highly recommend to do the timing belt damper since they are the ones that wear out and will make u do the whole timing. These are just things i would do while its out. Just so much easier than when it sits on the car. Good luck
 
If you have the brackets off, go right to the end of the head. EGR would also need to be off, or you could do it the way I do which uses the egr to hold the chain, but it can be a little sketchy and troublesome if you hurt the tubes to it. I just use the accessory bolts, since the brackets are off..you have bolts that fit just laying around.

The water pump was recently replace by the previous owner. But since I bought a complete engine gasket kit from ZZP I will use the rubber gasket. The one on there now looks like a paper one with RTV every where. Should I also consider doing the Head gaskets? The car only has 151k but I am not quite sure how the previous owner took care of the car.
 
No need to touch the head gaskets. I like the idea of taking the RTV out, that's a mess trying to clean it up in the engine bay.
 


Now that the engine is out and I can really inspect it. I can't really tell where all the oil leaks are coming from. I can see where the UIM and LIM are leaking. The valve covers are leaking. But also I can see where the front of the engine is wet with oil and especially down by the Oil pressure sensor. This is going to be a fun project.
 
Soooo here's some stuff to consider.

#1 At Advance Auto a lower conversion gasket kit has front and rear covers, water pump and oil pan gasket for less than the pan gasket by itself.
#2 Please, change the rear engine cover gasket. These are known to seep and cause plenty of other issues.
May as well do the front timing cover gasket, water pump, valve covers, LIM's etc and the rear cover then pan gasket while it's out.
 
Thanks for the help everyone. I will swing buy and pick up the felpro gaskets tonight. I should have time to tackle it this weekend. Also thanks for the part number that makes life easy.
 
Before pictures of the engine up close with all of the oil and leaks. I should have washed it while it was in the car. It would have made cleaning everything else up a little easier.
