belt noises

Word to the wise....if you ever here noises from the belt area do a complete inspection before jumping to conclusions.

In my case after hearing this rattle noise I initially thought I had a bad coupler, then I thought wait....I just installed a new Wbody store coupler almost 2yrs ago so then I got suspicious.

Took the belts off and rotated all the pullies. Guess what??? Got to the water pump pulley and the damn thing is hanging from it's bearing with everything it has left.

Mind you the noise I was hearing wasn't consistent specifically at idle which also told to me that the coupler wasn't the culprit.

So the moral of this thread is to just throughly check all other possibilities before making a decision blindly. Another thing, now I know why I was hearing intermittent belt squeaks, bc the WP pulley simply wasn't inline with the rest of the serpentine system.

Well there you go guys...it's not always the belt or coupler

I once opened the hood with belt noise and found the plastic tensioner pulley bearing had locked and the pulley came off.. was rubbing back and forth on the coolant tank...which was just close enough to keep it on the path. :th_thumb-up:
