Okay, I do NOT want this to be a hate thread or an arguement thread, but an honest to goodness INFO thread. I know that the Bazooka tubes are not as good as a seperate sub, sub box, and amplifier setup, but they are rather inexpensive, and being all in one, very easy to install. Now, for now I am NOT interested in what is better and what I "should" get, I am just wondering if anyone has ever installed one of these bazooka tubes, and what was the result like?

I'm not gonna hate. I like them. They're good for what they are. A good sub with a good enclosure. What's good about it? The fact that the enclosure is made for the speaker which 90% of DIY aren't. It's also going to be more efficient than a classic sealed setup so you don't need as much power. But the results are highly dependent on placement and vehicle shape. I helped a friend install one into his '03 mustang trunk. It blended well with the factory mids and gave a nice thump to your chest when it hit.

You won't always get those same results. It installs just like any other sub/amp setup. Do you have specific questions?
 
I can't hate on then for what they are. I have honestly used them in a walled setup for a "midrange" behind the front seats. They don't get loud, but they provide the extra bass that some people need to have.
 
My dad has an audiobahn 10" tube and it sounds pretty good for what it is. He's had the thing damn near 10 years now. Never heard a bazooka tube tho.
 
What would be the best way to place them then? Speaker pointing at the rear seat pass thru? Parallel to the rear seat, right behind the rear seat? in the far rear corner? Or maybe just hook it up and try out the different placements before bolting down?

You might have good luck "corner loading" in the rear corner next to a tail light too.
 


They sound decent for bazooka, but just too boomy for me. Sealed Bazookas are even more boomy than my ported P3's.

Do you know any other install specifics? I could wreck a $100k install in about 30 seconds if you let me "tune" it :)

Bass characteristics depend on how well all the speakers play well together. If you want a nice thump in your chest then you need a good response all the way up to 1khz...that's your mid. So you would require a smooth response curve through the crossover point that hopefully continues with the mids and tweeters.

Boomy could be a number of things...a real high QTC, terrible EQ choices, terrible crossover points, nulls and voids, phase issues. etc. I've heard bazooka's with a real nice tight bass and something that sounds like sloppy seconds. Install install install!!!!!!

Op...Good rule of thumb so sub sounds like it's up front and not localized to the rear...cross your mids with a high pass filter ~80hz w/24 decibel slope. Do the same with the sub but for low pass filter. ONLY play the rear speakers to ~100hz and 24 decibel slope. You can change that frequency higher but not lower. Try not to high pass the mids up front any higher than 125hz. Time alignement is a huge benefit. If it seems like your missing bass response, you can try flipping polarity on one mid up front but it'll likely just move the phase issue somewhere else. If that doesn't help...put the rear speakers out of phase from the front and try again.
 
How would I wire a bazooka setup? I imagine I could tap into the input wires of the rear amp (I have the Bose system), but which wires are left + & -, and right + & - ?
