My battery is the original ac delco and i drive an 03 gt. how much longer is this battery going to work for me? I know that is a kind of a toss up question but are batteries ever known to run this long or longer. my next question is what kind of battery should I get next? this one is still kickin strong but i was thinkin about starting to save some money for one. I wouldnt need the nicest thing but I also wouldnt want to replace it very often.
 


my dads had a battery last him 11 years before. dont ask me how but he did. truck was a 96 we replaced it in 07. personally id go back to the dealership and get a replacement battery. but thats just me. maybe go with an optima? i always hear good things about those. just dont go to walmart and grab one.
 
I also have a 03 GT on the original battery-the indicator still shows (GREEN?). Living in Minnesota, I was planning on grabing a tester from work and seeing what it says. It sits outside and will be getting cold soon!! My brother has a 97 GMC 1/2 ton truck and it was still on the original AC battery at 180,000 miles a year ago and it always sits outside in Iowa winters!!

I think AC batteries are good, but have the most experience with NAPA Legend batteries. I have moved 3 times since high shool and always had good luck with NAPA parts and service. The staff is generally pretty good as I am a somewhat regular customer with both work and personal supplies bought there. I stop in about once a month, maybe a little more in spring and fall. They are easy to find in this part of the Midwest.

I do not plan to change my battery until it starts to turn over slow in the mornings. If you are concerned, I think Advance and a few other parts stores offer free testing, heck the Advance here is offering free installaton I think.

Finally, there are lots of good batteries and some are identical just different labels, GET A GOOD WARRANTY AND HIGH CCA RATING!

I think most people would rather go to NAPA than walmart with a problem, would like to know others opinions on auto supplies from walmart.
 
It depends how well maintained the battery is. Typical batteries are toast when they get down to 10.5 V roughly 10 times.

I've had people come in with a year old battery failing and I've had people come in with 12 year old batteries with no complaints.

Don't let your battery drop below 12 V and keep it charged.

Bring the battery to a store that will test it for you. If the battery is still able to pass a test for its rated CCA then I wouldn't worry about it failing anytime soon.

As everyone has said, find a battery with a good warranty.
 


My 2001 is still on the stock AC battery (from Sept. '00).. so just passed the 9 year mark.. Still going strong.
 
is there a certain battery I should be looking at to get it so my lights dont dim so much? i realize there are alot of factors with that but is there a certain thing I should be looking for?
 


WTF? battery won't help the dimming. Get your alternator checked out. If its fine, get a tune and your idle raised if it only happens when you're idling. If that still doesn't help, get a high output alt.

Batteries only do **** when the car is off. When its running, the car runs off the alternator until the system hits around 12.5 V which is stupid low in the first place.

Get a battery with a good warranty and high CCA. So the delcos are good, die hards are good. Not sure on the other brands that you might be able to find around there.
 
I didnt think there was a difference. I understand the power thing i was just curious. thanks for the help. is there any difference between the ones with the dual posts(ones with posts on top and on the side) and the ones with just the regular screw in posts

not really, only makes a difference if they have different power ratings or if clearance is an issue.
 
Dual post would be helpful for good connections for your amp. It is just ment to be a dual use battery. Ford uses top post gm uses side.
 


I have a 06 grand prix the dealership told me in 07 the batt was ****. I told them bs it still runs 14.5-15v. If ur lights are diming when ur subs hit get a power cap. It stores power just like a batt. That way when ur subs hit it takes power from it and not from your car alt. Personly on the batt id go with optioma red top. Never had any probs with them. I use them in my boat for the trolling motor. I run the batt almost dead everytime take it home throw it on a slow charge and works perfect. Ive had it for 4 years.
 
Optima batteries are great, but pretty salty. I've used quite a few batteries in my day, DuraLast, Interstate, Sears (Diehard) Gold, etc... A lot of battery companies get the guts all from the same place and just wrap them and throw their name on it.

I've found that going to a wholesale club like BJ's or CostCo you get the best bang for the buck. They stand behind everything they sell. I got a store brand one at CostCo (Kirkland), it has 837 CCA and I think I paid $65.00 for it. Always like the Diehard batteries but they don't seem to last as long as they used to, and it's a tough nut to drop $125.00 for a battery that only lasts a couple of years. Check out the wholesale clubs, you may be surprised. A battery is a battery is a battery, unless you step-up to the Optima types.
